Curry Noodles and Yong Tau Foo
Once in a while, Saucer and I would just drive around our nearby neighbourhood, trying to search for that hidden gem or that unexpected food treasure. One Saturday afternoon, famished and hot, we were desperate to look for anything, absolutely anything that could fill our tummy. We drove past this coffee shop with a steady stream of customers inside and decided that this was it. Our venture of the day. Mei Keng is a Yong Tau Foo shop that occupies two shop lots with an unpretentious and clean environment.

Order chit
Ordering process was simple and fast. We were given an order chit with the various yong tau foo (literally ‘stuffed bean curd’) available, together with drinks and noodles. Very quickly, we placed our order on the one-page sheet and passed it to a waitress.

Table with sauces

Herbal tea of the day
Our order of stuffed lady’s fingers, stuffed bitter gourd, fish balls and dumplings (sui kow) came within minutes, served in a big bowl of soup. The soup was clear but flavourful, without strong hints of MSG. The stuffed bitter gourd was overcooked, but I absolutely love the fish balls. They were big, bouncy and springy!

Stuffed items and more

Dumpling (sui kow)
We also tried a few of their fried items, mainly the Fried fu chuk (stuffed bean curd sheet) and Fried meat roll. The Fried fu chuk was hot to touch and had the freshly fried crunchy skin. I would, however, prefer it to have thicker stuffing within to give it a bigger bite.

Fried fu chuk
The main star of the day though, surprisingly, was the curry noodles! In a shop that prides itself with Yong Tau Foo, I would assume that the stuffed items would be the star, but no. These noodles soaked in pungent and thick curry soup took the trophy home!

Curry noodles
The curry was very fragrant and rich with a distinctive coconut flavour, and had the right amount of spiciness. The noodles were soaked long enough that each slurp was bursting with flavour, together with a nice velvety touch to the soup. It was curry noodles at it’s best!

Delicious Curry noodles
It was overall a pleasant dining experience and one that we’re proud to share. The bill for everything above was RM16, and we left satisfied and happy. Really, you’ll never know what you can find unless you venture out and try!

Does it?? We can eat a lot more if you ask me
Yes it does

But that’s the strange thing with people from Eastern Asia. They eat and eat and eat, but still look super fit and slim
