Antipasti Buffet for RM18++

Spasso Milano is one of KL’s latest contemporary Italian restaurant that prides itself with authentic Italian cuisine. Located within a nice bungalow building called Nihonkan Club, it may give the impression that dining here would cost a fortune, when in fact, it’s the contrary! A few of us visited this modern restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for their antipasti buffet which cost only RM18++ per person. All of us loved the environment – it was exclusive, comfortable and had plenty of free parking! ;)

Pumpkin soup

Antipasti is synonymous to appetizer, which is the first course in any formal Italian meal. The Antipasti buffet selection here was not very extensive, but it was reasonable enough with generally above average quality. There’s also a choice to add a main dish to the buffet with only an additional RM3, making it a total of RM21++ per person.

There were two types of soup served that day, which were mushroom soup or pumpkin soup. I chose the pumpkin soup and found it to be creamy, flavourful and not overly thick. It was very comforting as an appetizer indeed.

Selection of antipasti

There was a bowl of greens for salad, as well as a few types of bread available. Even though the breads were toasted beforehand, they were already cold, perhaps due to them being left in the air-conditioned restaurant for a while. It would have been much nicer to have piping hot toasted bread if I had a choice, but I suppose that’s the compromise to be made in any buffet -style meal.

The same went to the deep-fried dishes on the spread, such as the fried chicken wings and fried fish fillet. Even though they managed to  maintain the crispiness of the skin, it would have been perfect if they were still warm.

That aside, I loved the mussels boiled with tomatoes though! They were huge and fresh, and were refilled throughout the meal.

If you think the selection so far must not be filling enough for you, there’s also pasta served.

There were three choices of main courses on the menu that day, and each of us ordered a different one to try. Of the three, I had to give special mention to the Dory Fillet Marinated in Citrus Accompanied with Garden Salad. Dory fish is a common enough fish in many restaurants, and is often served either grilled or deep fried. But here, the thinly sliced dory fillet was only ‘cooked’ in citrus (I’m assuming lemon juice), resulting in a semi-raw dish that was surprisingly not fishy at all. Points for creativity to the chef here, although the portion could have been bigger. :P

We ate and talked and ate again, for almost 2 hours until the buffet ended. It is always nice to catch up with good friends with a continuous supply of food within reach, don’t you think so? ;)

One thing to note though, the buffet does not include drinks (except for plain water). A wide selection of wine is available, so are coffee and fruit juices. We had the Cappuccino which was pretty good according to Saucer’s standards.

Dining environment of Spasso Milano

Overall, I had to say that for the price we paid (RM21++/pax), we were pretty satisfied with the complete package – the environment, the service, the food and of course, the company, which was priceless! This is indeed a good place to relax on a weekend afternoon, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
