Buy 1 Free 1 Japanese Buffet at Jogoya

Jogoya is without a doubt, one of the prominent Japanese buffet restaurants in the Klang Valley. Having been around for more than 5 years, it certainly holds a secret to success for the crowd to this place has never failed to impress. I was here 5 years ago when they were just opened, and here I am again now, 5 years later, heading for my second visit. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of buffet but since there’s a 2 for 1 Buffet promotion going on, why not?

All types of sushi and sashimi

Reaching there at 12.15pm on a Friday was a rather good timing, for there was no queue in sight and the place was probably half empty. It was a good way to start our buffet hunt, especially at the sashimi area.

“Less napkins, more plants”

My colleagues already had their first plates on the table while I scouted around to familiarize with the layout.

Sushi lover?

The main attraction of the place definitely went to the Sashimi area, where fresh slices of salmon, tuna, squid and scallop were quickly gobbled up by patrons. The good thing was, they refilled the sashimi pretty frequently, hence leaving all the plates filled most of the time.

Raw seafood for claypot

I filled my first plate with several types of sashimi, salmon sushi, oyster and chicken skewers! The smell of the satay was simply too good to resist, and I couldn’t stop myself from taking 2 of them, which fortunately turned out to be rather good. Very well-marinated and tender pieces of chicken meat, grilled to perfection and served warm. The sashimi was satisfactory, not the freshest I’ve tasted but reasonably good.

My first plate

5 years ago, I was in awe with the sheer size of oysters served in Jogoya. 5 years later, I’m glad to say that their oysters are still huge and fresh, with minimal fishy smell.

Chicken skewers and oyster

There was a fridge in the buffet area filled with plenty of claypots, filled with either chicken or beef slices. I took one with beef slices and placed it on the mini fire on our table. The fire was so small that it took ages to cook these slices of thin meat! I swear it must have taken at least an hour before one slice of meat was cooked. Not a very efficient way of cooking, yes?

After one hour

My favourite stall of all was, surprisingly, the steam station! This was where cawan mushi (steamed egg) and soups were served. And trust me when I say this – you must try the soup! We had the Double Boiled Fat Tiu Cheong that day and it was simply gorgeous.

The soup was extremely delicious, filled with goodies such as abalone slices, sea cucumber and scallops. It was so good that I took 2 bowls of it, and that counts for a lot in a buffet. :)

Apart from the buffet spread, we were given several clips to order some ‘made-to-order’ dishes. There was a wide variety of seafood to be ordered – siakap fish, prawns, crabs, grouper fish, vegetables, you name it.

The most notable dish we ordered was this plate of huge crab! It was so huge that even its legs were filled with succulent crab meat.

I know what you mean.. standards are usually hard to maintain especially with buffets and big crowds. That’s why I hesitated going until there’s this buy 1 free 1 promo :) It’s only until 27th of April…
