What’s your Favourite Honeymoon?
“Our desserts, your honeymoon” is the tagline that My Honeymoon lives by. My Honeymoon Dessert House, a rapidly growing dessert chain in the Klang Valley, has just opened its 6th outlet right here at Kuchai Lama, a place where it is easier to find a coin on the floor than a car park. Their specialty is creating authentic Hong Kong-style dessert using the highest quality of ingredients that are also fresh. Even though it has been around for a good couple of years to date, I have never been to this dessert house until last week.

Layers of fine durian ice
My first impression of this newest outlet was how bright and cheerful the environment was! The whole area was white and yellow, with the walls proudly covered with huge posters of their desserts. It definitely went through a major facelift compared to its older outlets with boring brown furniture.

The new yellow menu
Choosing from the menu proved to be a challenge on its own for there were over 250 types of desserts in the thick book! Everything looked amazing and tempting, but the few of us only had limited stomach capacity. We ended up ordering most of their signature dishes, and here they are according to my order of preference.
The Durian Love was my favourite that night – soft, finely-shaved ice flavoured with durian was delectable especially for durian lovers. The shaved ice in particular was amazingly fine and presented in layers and layers of ice sheets, making it almost too pretty to be eaten. Served on the sides were some agar-agar, grass jelly and red bean, creating a classy ensemble of red, black and white. Very attractive!

Durian Love
Since we’re on the topic of durian, their other durian dessert also deserves a good mention – Durian Pancake. It goes without saying that this dessert is one of the most popular ones around, making its presence felt not only in My Honeymoon but in many other dessert houses. Therefore, it is important to have a differentiation factor that makes the pancakes here stand out compared to the rest. To me, it was the ratio of the durian to the fresh cream. Just look at the cross-section and notice that the amount of durian flesh within is more than the amount of fresh cream used. Now this is what I call a quality durian pancake. Couple that with good quality durian flesh and you’ve got yourself the perfect durian dessert.

Apart from durians, I loved their Mango Cream with Sago and Pomelo too, a popular Hong Kong dessert. The secret to making this taste good lies in the mango and pomelo used. The mango has to be sweet and fresh, while the pomelo should be plump and juicy, with a slight bitterness. I was happy to find that My Honeymoon managed to present us all that and more. The finely-shaved ice, rich cream and sweet mango puree on top of fresh mangoes and pomelo made this my third favourite, thumbs-up!

Some other desserts that I tried include the Taichi Soy Bean, named so because of the mixture of black and white soy bean curd in a bowl. The black soy bean curd (tau foo fah) was pretty interesting as it was made with the addition of black sesame, making it fragrant with a marble-like.

The Mango Special Lo was lots of mangoes presented on top of what appeared to be like sheets of soy bean curd. The bean curd sheets were shaped like flat noodles and had a slightly firmer texture compared to ‘tau foo fah’. This was quite an interesting dessert to slurp on.

The specialty of Mango Magic lies in the mini white-coloured balls served on the side, which provided a burst of sour flavour with every bite. It was my first time having these balls and even though I’m not a fan of sour food, I found the combination of sweet and sour dessert to be very interesting. In fact, every bite of sour balls made me yearn for more of the sweet mango shaved ice – it’s a vicious cycle.

Lovely shaved Mango ice
The Mango Glutinous Roll was apparently one of their best-sellers but I did not find myself enjoying it, perhaps due to the more subtle and artificial taste of mango within? But that’s just me.

Up to this point, all the desserts are yellow! How about some chocolate? If you don’t fancy mangoes or durians, the Chocolate Love might do the trick. Finely shaved chocolate-flavoured ice with crunchy peanuts on top and bananas on the sides – this was a sight to behold!

Chocolate Love (RM11)
Although the Mellow Fellow Pastry looked gorgeous, I found the pastry layers to be too soft especially when ice-cream started to melt on top of it. This is probably a dessert that has to be eaten quick to avoid a mess of soft and mushy pastry at the end.

The Six Happiness Sweet Ball was served hot with six balls of different fillings – sesame, peanut, custard, taro, green tea and chocolate

The crowd of dessert lovers
It was indeed a night of dessert overdose! If you’re a fan of Hong Kong desserts, do drop by to give this place a shot. I’d suggest you to start with either Durian Love or Mango Cream with Sago and Pomelo if you’re a first-timer, because they are my favourite Honeymoon. What’s yours?

I ate the Durian Love with Carol and Eric the other day! Nice but I was wondering if the durian was fake flavour or real durians? How come the colour so white?

It should be real I guess .. we talked to the owner that night and she said everything they use is natural. Hehe
The interior of this shop looks better than the one in 1Utama! Btw, does the shop in 1Utama still exists or closed down already?

Valuable info. Lucky me I found your site by accident, and I’m shocked why this accident didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
