A Contented Meal that Warms Up your Tummy

As I’m writing this post, it’s raining heavily outside. In fact, it has been raining for the past 4 hours or so, making me shiver every time the wind blows. At times like this, a bowl of steaming hot porridge is the answer to my woes. Ah, how I crave for a bowl right now! Recently, a new row of shops have mushroomed in Sri Petaling, giving me more choices for lunch! I was delighted to see many newcomers in town, including Pappa Rich, Padi House, Jojo’s Little Kitchen, Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh and, the one I went to, Contented Porridge Restaurant. Situated amidst a row of restaurants, Contented Porridge Restaurant wouldn’t be my first choice for lunch if not for the fact that all the other restaurants were still under renovation. Still, I was open to the idea of exploring new places and this new restaurant looked promising and clean.

The five of us went in and placed orders based on recommendations.

We had a pot of Plain Porridge, which was to complement the claypot pork belly that would arrive later. I love porridge in claypot because it would remain steaming hot for a long time! The porridge here was a little bit on the watery side, but flavourful and delicious. Even though the pot for one person was huge, the watery texture would mean that you’d feel full but only for a short period of time.

The Claypot Pork Belly arrived next, also piping hot and very fragrant. These were moreish and a tad salty, so you’d have to eat them with the porridge. Even though I loved the taste of this, I would prefer it if the meat used was less fatty. :P

Next was claypot of Frog Porridge! I first had my taste of frog porridge in Geylang Singapore, and never forget it  since. But the frog porridge here was served a little different in that the frog meat was submerged within the porridge. The porridge base was essentially the same as the plain porridge, but there were plenty of frog meat within.

The frog meat was meaty, smooth and tender, blended very well with the piping hot porridge. It’s definitely comfort food during cold and rainy days.

Of course, I love having Chinese Crullers (You Tiao) with porridge. Or should I just say, I love having Chinese Crullers, period. :)
