Authentic Sichuan and Cantonese Flavours at Si Chuan Dou Hua, Parkroyal Hotel
During my trip to Shanghai/Hangzhou early this year, my friend brought us to have authentic Sichuan style dishes which were tongue and lip-numbing but oh-so-delicious! I never thought I would have the chance to sample something similar anymore once I’m back in Malaysia, that is, until I discovered Si Chuan Dou Hua at Parkroyal Hotel. The Si Chuan Dou Hua in KL is apparently the third branch in the region, after the first two branches opened in Singapore. Remember the jaw-dropping tea pouring master?

Still remember this?

Tea pouring with style
The Tea pouring master from China actually works in Si Chuan Dou Hua restaurant. The dining experience there is made memorable by this tea server who presents the humble act of tea art. Using a metre-long noise bronze tea kettle, the server combines the skills of Chinese martial arts, dance and gymnastics to perform elegant tea-pouring moves. Watch the videos if you don’t believe me!

I can’t help but feel that I was in China, with all the antiques display in the restaurants, the red lanterns hanging on the ceiling and the tea server’s Chinese accent. It was pretty unbelievable!

I was particularly impressed with the tea served that night, which was the Eight Treasure Tea. It didn’t only look pretty, but smell of Jasmine and gave a very calming effect after drinking it.

Eight treasure tea
If you like this tea, they even sell it separately in a box of 8 packets at RM55 each. Each packet can be refilled with water for up to 7 times! Of course, I’d save this tea for special occasions.
The eight treasures consist of Red dates, wolfberries, dried longans, chrysanthemum, rock sugar, dried lily buds, Jasmine tea leave sand ‘mai dong’. Very fragrant, really.

Our dinner started with a plate of spring rolls while waiting for other guests to arrive. These were fried golden brown and crispy, with fillings of vegetables inside. I liked that they were not very oily, as shown from their matte outlook.
