Hubby’s Birthday Dinner at Sagar Restaurant
Yesterday marked a special date for my hubby, also known as Saucer in the blogging community. It was his birthday and it was the first time we’re celebrating it as a married couple.
This time, I wanted to surprise him with a different sort of birthday dinner, something that he wouldn’t expect, since most of our special dinners were held in Western or Italian restaurants. I asked him to guess while I was driving to the destination, and he kept thinking we’d be going to some place with Western food! *LOL* Anyway, when we reached the destination, he was really surprised that I brought him to a Northern Indian Cuisine restaurant instead! He once told me that he fancies Northern Indian Cuisine but seldom had the chance to try it here, so here we are!

Interior of Sagar Restaurant
I chose Sagar Restaurant in One Bangsar thanks to my colleague’s recommendation. Since it was a week night, the restaurant was barely half-filled, which was great ambience! It felt very private yet cosy, and the service was impeccable. The waiter who took our order didn’t even need a pen or paper, he was just listening to us ordering and nodding away, while giving some recommendations along the way too. Impressive!

Fresh Papadaam (complimentary)

Sauces to go with Papadaam
Once we’re seated, we’re served with a basket full of fresh papadaam. Very crispy and fragrant, we finished all of them! It was too good. We were also served with a tray of sauces, but we had no idea what they were for. Our guess would be they’re for the papadaam but we enjoyed papadaam just they way they are.
My order of Mango Lassi came in a glass of bright yellow and thick liquid, which was really rich and sweet. I could really taste real mangoes being used in the lassi, blending well with the yogurt. A recommended drink.

I ordered a serving of Plain Briyani, cooked with basmathi rice. Even though the portion was for one person, the two of us found it just nice for sharing. The rice was very fragrant but not too savoury on its own. It was meant to be eaten with gravy or curry. Each morsel was well separated and cooked just right. Perhaps due to its oily nature, one would feel full even after eating a small portion of it.

The Kashmiri Naan is an order that I always picked whenever I dined in Northern Indian restaurants. I loved the soft bread and the fruits and cheese that blended together with it. The resulting combination was a delightful mixture of sweet and savoury, surrounded by thin and soft bread that went perfectly well with curry. I loved the taste of the Kashmiri Naan here though I found the texture to be slightly oily.

Moving on to the dishes, we had a vegetable dish called Vege Jalfrezi, recommended by the waiter. It was a curry dish with a mixture of vegetables such as carrots, french beans and green peas. The Indian curry was thick and flavourful, but not too spicy.

It’s just marketing. They don’t train their staffs well. Sagar is no where compared to kohinoor and Bombay palace. One must always be careful with Indian restaurants as some of the staffs that lack of training are usually unhygienic and rude.m
Thanks Rahul for the enlightening comment. I will have to try those places that you recommended for me to compare some day
