Seafood with a View at Kuala Selangor
Apart from watching fireflies in Kuala Selangor, another reason we went there was for their fresh and cheap seafood. On the way towards the town, we passed by this Malay stall selling fruits, snacks and coconut water. Seeing it was such a hot and sunny afternoon, we stopped by for some coconuts!

The coconut here was really sweet! And no, there was no sugar added into it because we watched him crack the coconut open and gave it to us. The water was refreshing and the meat was so very young and smooth. Best of all? It only cost RM1.50 each!

After that, we proceeded to riverside where most restaurants and shops are located.

The fishing village
There are two big and famous seafood restaurants in town, standing next to each other. One of them was Jeti Seafood, while the other was Riverview Seafood. I read some blogs earlier and found mixed reviews on Riverview. Some said it was overpriced, and some said the quality has dwindled. On the other hand, a few that went to Jeti gave quite good comments. So we decided to go for Jeti instead.

Jeti Seafood and Saucer
We were there quite early for dinner and the restaurant was quite empty, with just 1 or 2 tables occupied. However, the service left much to be desired. The girl who took our orders had a face permanently marked with a scowl, and didn’t look too eager to give recommendations when we asked for one. Fine. The first dish we ordered was the Fried Squid Rings. To my disappointment, the squid rings, though fresh, were not fried very well. The flour used had a strong alkaline (?) taste, and it was a tad too oily.

The Oyster Omelette was different from the ones we had in Penang. This was fried flat like a pancake, with bits of oysters in between the layers of egg and flour. I found the oysters used too minute and the egg/pancake had too much flour especially towards the middle.

Oyster Omelette (RM10)
The dish that I would commend on would be the Kam Heong Crabs, which were fresh and quite meaty. The gravy was slightly spicy with the strong aroma of shallots and dried shrimps. Very appetizing indeed.

Kam Heong Crabs (RM24 – 1/2 kg)
Since my MIL was reducing her intake on seafood, we had this Marmite Chicken as well. This was surprisingly pretty good! The gravy was slightly sweet and savoury, and the chicken was tender and juicy. The chicken was deep fried first, so there were still crispy bits at the edges that gave us a good bite.

Last but not least, some greens to balance our meal. We had the Romaine Lettuce (yau mak), which was pretty average.

The good thing about Jeti Restaurant, or Riverview Restaurant for that matter, is that they’re both situated just next to the river. If you go there early, you might even be lucky enough to get a table just by the river, where I took the pictures below.

The next day, before leaving Kuala Selangor, we went to shop for some snacks and dried seafood. There are plenty of such shops just next to the Jeti Restaurant, but we went to this one which looked the largest.

The main snack I bought was the prawn crackers, which were sold at only RM1.20 per pack! They’re the packs hanging from the top in the picture below. I bought only 5 packs because Saucer wouldn’t let me buy more, saying that they’re fattening and heaty.
Now I’m regretting it because it’s just so nice! Crunchy and fragrant.

Snacks and more
I saw these biscuits just out of the oven as well, but I didn’t get them.

Fresh from the oven
The dried seafood was aplenty in the shop – dried shrimps, salted fish, anchovies, etc. Even anchovies alone came in all shapes and sizes!

After the shopping session, we headed back to KL in the morning. Traffic was so pleasant since most people were back home for Raya.

I passed by Kuala Selangor last saturday during my trip to Perak. Nice place to chill at. Another must see attraction there is the Bukit Melawati where you get to see monkeys, fishes etc.

The food looks good – even the squids. Marmite chicken… I’ve never tried, not even Marmite crabs. Can’t get that at restaurants here…must try and cook one of these days. You didn’t get the heong peah kah? I guess can’t beat Taiping or Teluk Intan ones….

I thought the best heong peah is from Gunung Rapat or Teluk Intan, so I didn’t buy any.
Regarding Lumix LX5…
Seems to be a nice camera, but could be too thick for your pocket. If you plan to keep it inside handbag that’s fine.
P/S Not everyone is as photogenic as you. That’s why I pretend to be serious lor…
