Celebrate Ramadan at Hotel Nikko with Buka Puasa Spread
It’s time for Buka Puasa! During the Ramadan period (11th August to 10th September 2010), Serena Brasserie will be featuring a lavish ‘Buka Puasa‘ spread of traditional local specialties from four different Malaysian States and kampung favourites for all to break fast with families and friends.

All the salad dressings

French loaf, anyone?
Aside from the bread and salads, there was also the Seafood on Ice area with plenty of fresh seafood to choose from! I especially enjoyed the scallops.

Love the scallops!

Sushi rolls
One station deserving mention was the Sotong Kangkung station! This unassuming small stall didn’t receive much attention but trust me, those squid and the sauce were fiery! Especially the sauce! I would have eaten more if I had a bigger stomach!

Another dish deserving mention was the Bubur Lambuk, a traditional Malay rice porridge. The porridge was smooth and flavourful, it did very well to warm up my stomach. This is a must-try!

For a taste on the spicy side, perhaps one could try the Curry Laksa noodles, prepared with some springy fish balls. Seriously, don’t miss out on the fish balls.

Of course, when you’re in the spirit of Ramadan, how could one forget about lemang and ketupat? These quintessential items are also available during Buka Puasa at Serena Brasserie.

Variety of drinks
One thing I didn’t have enough of was the Coconut drink! It was so sweet and refreshing that we kept asking for more! To avoid disappointment, make sure you get a couple of those before you start on anything else. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! *LOL*

Apart from the dishes indoors, Serena Brasserie also set up some stall outdoors, much like a Ramadan Bazaar. There were plenty of stalls to choose from ranging from Satay, Roasted Lamb, Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) and so on.

Chicken rice stall
As usual, the Satay stall was always popular so much so that one has got to queue up for it. Again, this is something that you should take before anyone else does! *kiasu*

Condiments for the satay
I tried a piece of the grilled fish and was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the fish was! The meat was flaky and fragrant, owing to the hours of marination done by the chef. Well done!

Hah! The grilled fish tied with pandan leaves… Reminds me of the ones I cooked and posted on in my blog – real nice! Kuih talam? I prefer serimuka – the ones with pulut in the bottom layer. Love those brown ones – last pic. Can’t remember the name now…
