RM10++ for 4 mooncakes – Ramadan Special Set at Sime Darby Convention Centre
After the appetizing “Yee Sang” the meal started with Puree of Winter Melon and Seafood, which was thick and wholesome with the flavour from seafood. There were pieces of scallops, prawns, squids and mushrooms in it, making each spoonful a delight to drink and munch.

The Shallow Fried Crispy Chicken was fried very well resulting in paper-thin crispy skin. The meat was also smooth and moist, definitely deserving a thumbs-up! For someone who doesn’t eat chicken skin, I couldn’t resist it myself. *glutton*

Next dish was the Steamed Patin in Shanghai Style, slightly spicy and full of gingery taste. Most importantly, the fish was fresh and smooth. Really, as long as the fish is fresh, even a simple steamer will do wonders!

My favourite though, was the Braised Prawns with Chef’s Home Made Sauce, which was GIGANTIC! Well, it doesn’t look as huge in the picture below, but trust me, it’s actually huge and succulent. It was deep fried first and then braised with the special home made sauce, so I could still taste some crispy bits on the outside of the prawn.

The sauce went extremely well with the prawn, and did I mention the prawns were so fresh? It was so good that the plate was cleared within minutes of serving!

Delicious huge prawns
After so many dishes of meat, one surely needs some greens to balance out.

Sauteed Baby Kai Lan with Belacan
Last but not least, the Steamed Bean curd with Black bean sauce was popular because of the home made bean curd used. Very smooth and soft without being too wobbly. The fish meat paste on top of the bean curd gave it the correct balance of soft at the bottom and firm on top. A well-thought combination indeed.

Now, we move to the part that you’ve been waiting for! RM10 for a BOX of moon cakes is really true. But let’s first see what are the moon cakes available, shall we?

Snow skin moon cakes – Macadamia nuts

Mocha flavour, green tea and Tiramisu
Of all the snow skin variety, I preferred the Green Tea the best! The lotus paste was infused with green tea flavour, making it slightly bitter and not as sweet. Plus, the skin of the Green Tea moon cake was made from Long Jing tea leaves, making it very fragrant. I know because halfway eating, I bit into a piece of the Long Jing tea leaf. *LOL*

Of course, who could forget the traditional lotus paste baked moon cakes? The double-yolk variant was shaped in a square! Very interesting and different.

I liked that the crust of the moon cake was still a little crispy and crumbly when we ate it, because it was freshly baked. Most people like to eat moon cakes which have been seasoned for a few days, when the crust is soft and shiny, but I actually prefer to eat it as fresh as possible. Right out of the oven even. *LOL*

Now, to get a box of 4 moon cakes of any variety PLUS the beautiful wooden box below for just RM10 (normal price RM49.90), one only needs to order the Ramadan Special Set that I’ve talked about above, which includes all the dishes AND the “Yee Sang” as well.

Box of moon cakes
The Ramadan Special Set is priced at RM568 for 10 persons. For the type and quality of food you get in a posh environment, I’d say it’s pretty reasonable. What’s more, you can get moon cakes for only RM10! Which worked out to about RM2.50 each. Isn’t that dirt cheap?
