Chinese Cuisine for Lunch at Cheong Wah Restaurant
It was Friday again, and time to decide where to go for our 2.5 hours lunch. (Are you jealous) My colleague suggested this place called Cheong Wah in Puchong that he had visited a few times before, claiming that it’s not bad with reasonable prices. So, off we went in the afternoon, luckily to find that the restaurant was not busy at all.

Chandelier
Cheong Wah is huge! It is definitely designed to cater to functions and weddings, judging from the enormous floor space and the stage in the middle. Anyway, we placed our orders with the friendly captain and waited patiently.

Interior of Cheong Wah
We started with some vegetables, the stir-fried Romaine lettuce was fresh and crunchy, with the fragrant smell of fried garlic.

The Four Heavenly Kings (Sei Dai Tin Wong) didn’t look too good in terms of presentation but those ‘petai’ was a hit among the colleagues! I am no fan of petai, so I was more interested in the long beans and brinjal instead. This was strongly flavoured with dried shrimps and belacan, making it a very appetizing dish.

I picked one of the dishes that afternoon, which was ‘Choy Pou Tau Fu’ or Beancurd with Minced Meat and Pickled Vegetables. It was quite a hit! I especially loved the awesome combination of pickled vegetables and minced meat on top of the beancurd that went extremely well with rice! I definitely had more than one serving of those mean stuff, and was downing my rice faster than you could say cheese. The beancurd was home made, with crispy skin and soft and smooth interior which was rich in soya fragrant. Definitely a recommended dish to order.

The Marmite Pork Ribs was a recommendation from the restaurant, claiming that it’s a best-seller. The ribs came in huge chunks and were well-marinated with a glazy finish. The large size meant that one piece was enough to satisfy.

We had two types of fish that day, cooked differently. One was cooked with black bean sauce while the other was steamed. The freshwater fish size was on the smaller portion, and cost RM44 each! Pretty steep, I’d say. Thankfully, they’re both fresh with firm and smooth meat. I preferred the one with black bean sauce, which was savoury and tad sour.

Last but not least, we had the Nestum Prawns. The prawns were gigantic and fresh. The meat was succulent, and went very well with the fragrant Nestum coating. I loved this so I had 2 of the prawns. They also used some bird’s eye chilli in the Nestum, so make sure what you’re putting in your mouth in case you end up in fire! *LOL*

At the end of the meal, the restaurant gave us a complimentary plate of fruits and agar-agar (flavoured jelly). Mangoes were my favourite!

Overall, the meal came up to about RM23/person including rice and drinks. For that kind of environment and food quality, it was pretty reasonable. I mean, we even had chicken rice before at RM20 per person! So this was a pretty good deal compared to that.
