Cure for World Cup Fever at Prince Court Medical Centre
With the World Cup 2010 hot attacking everyone’s TV, some might be affected with fever – the World Cup Fever! And where else to cure a fever but at a hospital? Yes, I’m asking you to go to the hospital, my dear friends!
Not for treatment, but for food! Food Galleria, located at the lower ground of Prince Court Medical Centre (PCMC), serves some mean food for football fanatics, only during the world cup period.

Food Galleria at PCMC

The menu
The beautiful Food Galleria is unlike any hospital restaurants, with a setup not unlike the 5-star restaurants, Food Galleria definitely gives you a dining experience to remember.

Private dining area

The bar
During the world cup month (until 11th July 2010), Food Galleria is running a World Cup Food Promotion with various dishes from different countries of the world cup. All the dishes in the menu had a flag next to it to represent the countries that inspired those dishes.

World Cup Food Promotion
Who do I support? Brazil! I even searched for its flag on the tables around. *LOL* Hopefully they can win this year’s world cup!

Brazil fever
Even though Food Galleria is within a hospital, anyone from the public can visit it during lunch or dinner. No restrictions. And I just found out that those who stay in PCMC actually get fed 5 times a day! And all of them tailored to their dietary requirements. Also, apparently the 5 meals are complimentary with the room charge, which is only RM250/day. I was really surprised to find out about that because I know of some hospitals in Ipoh which are charging more than RM300 a night!

Decorative pills – sugar, spice and everything nice
We started our meal with some drinks, especially their signature mocktails. All sold at RM11.80 each.

Sangria
My favourite was the Imperial Punch, which was a fancy fruit juice with pineapple and mango flavour. It was tangy and sweet at the same time, definitely a good appetizer. And a healthy one too! Another surprising thing I found out, all these drinks were made without sugar! They’re pure fruit juices, but they tasted oh-so-good!!! Serious. You can drink away and not feel guilty at all. Kudos to them!

Various mocktails at RM11.80 each
If you don’t like the idea of mixing fruit juices together, there are also fresh fruit juices (again, pure fruit juice with nothing else) at RM10 each. If I were you, I’d definitely go for the mocktails for the extra RM1.80 eh?

Fresh fruit juices (RM10)
For appetizer, we started with some warm, lightly-toasted whole meal bread.

Lightly toasted whole meal bread
Then we had some salad …

Escalibada (Spain) – Spanish Red pepper and aubergine salad (RM12.50)

Salade Fermière Tiède aux Lardons (France) – Warm salad of frisèe, beef bacon, potato & poached egg (RM14.50)
.. and soups. Anyone can pronounce the soup below?

Soupe d’avocat abidjanaise (South Africa) – South African chilled avocado soup with dash of yoghurt & Tabasco (RM10.80)

Sopa De Caracol (Honduras) – Honduras fish coconut cream soup with cumin (RM12.80)
Their selection of Mains is pretty extensive! I especially enjoyed this rice dish called Moqueca Kaka. Guess why? Look at the country it’s inspired from!
The stew was just marvellous, and I’m not saying that because of the country. The seafood was well-marinated and tender, and I especially loved the thick tomato broth! Very flavourful and creamy.

“Moqueca” Kaka (Brasil) – Bahia Seafood stew in rich tomato broth & rice (RM28.80)
Argentina – the team that Saucer is supporting.

Carbonada Criolla (Argentina) – Argentineans Beef stew with sweet potato, tomato, corn & dry fruits (RM 26.80)
The Gnocchi was top-notch, with strong herbs-infused tomato-based gravy and soft and tender potatoes. It was the favourite among all that night.

Gnocchi con aubergine arrabiatta (Italy) – Aubergine, potato dumpling in spicy tomato sauce (RM18.50)

Chicken Souvlaki (Greece) – Oregano & garlic marinated chicken grilled over charcoal, Tzatziki & pitta (RM24.50)
If you are someone who loves gamey taste, you would love the Lahm Lhalou lamb. The smell was so strong that you could sniff it before it even reached your taste buds.

Lahm Lhalou (Algeria) – Algerian lambs with saffron, turmeric, almond & prunes with white rice (RM38.80)
For something Asian, the Korean grilled beef!

Deungshim Gui Dolsot Bibimbap (Korea Republic) – Korean style grilled beef sirloin on vegetables & rice (RM35.00)
My absolute love that night was this Chargrilled Salmon, inspired by New Zealand. This was crispy at the edges and the skin, but so smooth and delicious inside. Almost melt-in-your-mouth good. That was one fresh salmon I ate.

Chargrilled Salmon (New Zealand) – Salmon with sun dried tomato, cucumber cream & spinach (RM38.90)
The hospitable Mr Martin even showed us the welcome cookies that are given to in-house patients, as a gesture to wish them well soon. So sweet of them!

Last but not least, let me show you the desserts, starting with this:

Chef Adam Gaffey from Australia
LOL! He’s an eye candy, isn’t he? Fine, that’s not the dessert. We had 4 types of dessert that night, ranging from cakes to pavlova.

Summer Berries Pudding with Mixed berries Coulis (England) – Slice bread in mixed berries coulis with fresh berries & berries compote (RM8.50)

Gebackener Kasekuchen (Germany) – Baked cheese cake & spices marinated grapes (RM8.90)

Baked pavlova Fruit Salsa (Australia) – Freshly baked meringue with almond mixed fruits salsa & balsamic strawberry (RM9.80)
My favourite dessert was the Rueblitorte, which was a Swiss traditional rich carrot cake & orange caramelized walnuts. The cake was packed with carrot goodness, giving me a healthy feeling even though I was indulging.
