Mille Crêpe Cakes like no other at Food Foundry
As promised on my previous post, I will now show you what Food Foundry has to offer. The best has yet to come!
Food Foundry is almost synonymous with Mille Crêpe Cakes. What are those, some might ask? Crêpe is actually a type of very thin pan cake, originating from France. Mille Crêpe, on the other hand, refers to a variant of French cake made from many (Mille = Thousand) layers of Crêpe. So you can imagine the hard work required just to bake this cake eh?

Layers and layers of Crêpe (source)
Layers and layers of paper-thin pancake painstakingly made and stacked one on top of another with different flavours in between the layers. Definitely not a job for the faint-hearted.

The good news is, we don’t have to dirty our hands or make those paper thin pan cakes ourselves to enjoy this cake, because there’s Food Foundry! Food Foundry has been known for years for its amazingly good Mille Crêpe Cakes that have not be rivaled by many in the same business.

My favourite flavour – Vanilla
I first had a taste of this amazing Crêpe cake about 2 years ago when Saucer was excitedly telling me about a new find that he loved so much in PJ. At that point of time, I was still residing very much in Penang, so I could only listen to how good it was without having the sense of sight or taste. So when I came to KL to visit him, I demanded to try out this cake and boy, I was just nodding away with every bite.
Each layer of Crêpe was perfectly made, thin as paper and very fragrant with the smell of eggs. The vanilla cream in between the layers were not overly sweet and had a hint of vanilla essence that brought out the best of the Crêpe cake. Comparing this to the chocolate flavour, I’d still prefer Vanilla, so you could see how good the Vanilla Crêpe cake was. (from someone who loves chocolates!)

Strawberry Mille Crêpe Cake (RM9)
During my recent visit, I also had the chance to sample some other flavours of Crêpe Cake, namely the Strawberry flavoured one. It was my second favourite that night, with layers of delicious strawberry jam stuffed in between the layers of vanilla cream. Again, those Crêpe layers were fantastic. I couldn’t stop myself from having more of it.

Chocolate Mille Crêpe Cake (RM9)
Not to forget was the Chocolate flavoured Crêpe cake, which, from the looks of it, was a combination of chocolate and vanila cream. This was good too, as you get to have the best of both worlds. Still, I love my Vanilla.
Apart from the Crêpe cakes, there were some other variety of cakes as well, such as this Chocolate Brownie. Generous with nuts and chocolate, this brownie is sure to send anyone depressed into a jovial mood due to the dosage of endorphins from the rich chocolate!
The brownie was moist and firm, with rich chocolatey flavour.

And for something more common, one could try the Almond Tiramisu with lots of crunchy chopped almonds on top. This tiramisu was prepared in a different way compared to the typical version with lots of cream. Instead, 2 different types of sponge were used, resulting in a soft combination that was easy to the palate.

Last but not least, we ventured into trying the Chocolate Dream as well. Even from the looks of it, one could tell that it was very moist and rich with chocolate. Just look at the glistening finish of the chocolate cake. Definitely a cake that would satisfy any girl’s cravings for chocolate!

Of course, no matter which cakes I tried, my love still lies with the Vanilla Mille Crêpe Cake! You have to try it to believe it.

My love – Vanilla Crêpe Cake
Someone left a comment in my previous post saying this place is actually PJ’s best kept secret! Well, it’s a secret no more, is it now?

Yea I guess not many people out of KL know about it though..
Have tried them all! The Malacca one, Food Foundry, some in Singapore and the best, by far, to me is still Humble Beginnings.
Best taste, price, service.
Agree with Simon Seow.
