Pastas and Beyond at Food Foundry

Whenever I heard anyone mentioning the name Food Foundry, I would immediately associate it with Mille Crepe Cakes. It was one of the few restaurants that serve awesome crepe cakes that both Saucer and I love so much. During the recent visit to Food Foundry, however, I discovered much more to it than just crepe cakes!

I even spotted a cute bird on the wall of the restaurant! Twitter! :P

For starters, we had some salad and soup. The first one was the Green Salad, which was a healthy combination of fresh lettuce, carrot, cucumber and pepper with drizzles of olive oil.

I preferred the Caesar Salad with romaine lettuce and those hard-boiled eggs with crouton! And look at the generous amount of cheese powder sprinkled on top!

As for soups, there were 2 varieties to choose from – Onion soup or Tomato cream soup. I’m not and have never been a fan of onions, so no prize guessing which one I chose. ;)

Soup of the day – Onion soup (RM8)

The tomato cream soup was served piping hot, with a thick and creamy texture that was oozing with tomato goodness. I also loved that it wasn’t overly sour and was very easy on the stomach. Exactly what an appetizer should be! I loved it so much that I even had second helpings of this soup! Yum!

Moving on to the mains, we had mostly pastas that night. All varieties of it! Starting with my all-time favourite – Marinara. Marinara will never go wrong with me, unless the seafood used was not fresh. I’m proud to say that Food Foundry did not disappoint for the mussels and calamari rings in the pasta were of good quality. Plus, the spaghetti was cooked al-dente which gave it a very springy and chewable texture. I love!

Marinara (RM23)

Apart from Marinara, I am happy to announce that I have a second favourite pasta dish for now -Vongole. This was served with a generous amount of clams, with herbs and spices that made the spaghetti very flavourful. Some might find this a tad salty, but I actually loved it all the same. The fragrant that it emitted was too aromatic to be ignored, hence, I had the most out of this pasta dish compared to the rest.

Vongole (RM16)

The Aglio Olio Prawns did not fare too bad either, with the pasta cooked in a similar way to Vongole, except that prawns were used instead. I also liked that they put some chilli flakes on the olive oil-infused pasta, making it more appetizing and adding a kick to it. I think I’m starting to like pasta made this way compared to the tomato-based marinara (Oh no!).

They had clams, they had prawns and later they even had fish! The Smoked Salmon pasta was served with cream sauce, which was rich without being overly creamy. Some people might not be able to stomach too creamy pastas, for they’re too rich and make people feel full very fast. This was not one of them. The salmon used was also flaky and fresh, which went very well with the pasta and cream sauce. Slurp!

One dish which managed to surprise most of us was the Vegetarian pasta. It looked a lot like tomato-based pasta but it was hot and spicy! This was so good and flavourful you wouldn’t realize you’re eating a vegetarian dish at all.

The Lemongrass prawns in spicy volcanic sauce was similar to Aglio Olio but with a tinge of spiciness, not to mention the lemongrass-infused fragrant prawns.

Other than pastas, we had a few of other Western dishes, among which was the Moroccan lamb shank. It was enormous! The meat was also soft and fell of the bones easily. Add in some gravy and voila! Delicious lamb shank that wasn’t gamey.

The Food Foundry Chicken Chop was grilled and served on a bed of mashed potatoes. As usual, a whole chicken thigh was used and grilled to perfection.

For something Asian, one could opt for Nyonya Curry Kapitan with steamed rice, with flavourful kapitan chicken that went well with rice.

And the last of the mains, Chicken Cordon Bleu, was deep fried and drenched with cheese-based sauce. Yes, drenched! As opposed to the typical Cordon Bleu where the cheese was stuffed within the chicken, this was served the other way round. I guess the good thing is, you get more cheese and sauce with this method of serving and it was glorious! Something I would order again for sure.

We actually had some desserts after this but this post is getting too long and I personally think the desserts deserve a post on its own. :) Think of Mille Crepe Cakes, my dear friends! I will definitely share with you guys those cakes very soon! :) Click here for cakes!

Thanks for the info. Frequent the place a long time ago but the standard dropped after the origical chef left. Looks like they have improved. Will go check them out again.

FYI there is a typo in the number u provided. +603-7955 2885 is the number for MCIS Zurich, the insurance co. Lol.

    +603-7955 3885 is their actual number. :)

  21. Disappointed says:

Even though service was good, the food was disappointing – supposedly sirloin steak was tough, rubbery and overly salty, lamb chops were mostly bone and fat, gravy was lumpy, mashed potatoes were uninspiring and though the carrots were nicely cooked, some were old and spotted. Will not be going back.
