1 Puchong Cafe – Lanna Thai, Chicken Ginseng Soup and Fried Oysters
Sometimes when I don’t cook for dinner, Saucer and I would just take the car, drive around Puchong area and wonder what to eat. On one particular night, I was craving for something hot and spicy, but Saucer was craving for something soupy, so we decided to head to a huge food court that we always passed by but never entered. The 1 Puchong Cafe is situated along LDP in Puchong, just opposite IOI Mall. Once we parked, I was surprised to find that the food court was huge with plenty of food selections, not to mention comfortable and airy dining area at night.

Lanna Thai
Without further ado, I settled for Tom Yam noodles at one of the Thai restaurant there called Lanna Thai. Only after ordering, they gave me a table tag and I realized that they have a branch in The Gardens, Midvalley itself. Impressive! My noodles arrived soon after, piping hot and aromatic with the spicy smell of Tom Yam seafood.

With the first sip of the soup, I was instantly awaken! It was spicy, sour, hot and appetizing – all in one. It was just what I needed that night, while watching the World Cup being shown on the projector screen. The soup was aromatic and thick, and they were not stingy with seafood.

As for Saucer, he ordered a bowl of Ginseng Chicken soup which looked better than it tasted. It was not that bad, but we both found it too bitter for our liking. I guess some might say the bitterness was good due to the ginseng added? But really, the ginseng was generous, with a few pieces of chicken inside. They definitely did not scrimp on ingredients here.

The fried oyster and fried radish cake (char kuey kak) were from the same stall, and both were nothing stellar. The oyster was a little bland, while the radish cake was way too oily.

Just look at the glaze and sheen on the radish cake! I only managed to eat a few pieces before calling it quits. Also, sad to say, other than the oiliness, I really couldn’t taste anything else.

I saw a few other stalls there that I would go back to try again, such as the Puchong Yong Tau Fu, that claimed to be a branch of the one in Batu 14, Puchong. This food court was huge and airy, I’m surprised why it was relatively quiet at night.
