Budget Food Crawl at Pavilion KL
I’m sure most would agree with my if I say that Pavilion in general is an expensive place to dine in. Being a higher class shopping mall populated by famous brands smacked in the middle of KL city, food definitely doesn’t come cheap here. When Saucer and I were there for movie one evening, we tried to explore looking for food that wouldn’t hurt our pockets too much. Of course, where did we go but to the Pavilion Food Republic food court at the Lower Ground?
There were plenty of stalls at Food Republic, making it that much harder to choose. After taking a walk around, I settled for a stall call Little Wok, which served Chinese style individual rice/noodles dishes. I chose it simply because the queue was long and I was in the mood for some rice. I always thought if there’s a crowd, the food must be good or above average. So I ordered the Dried Chilli Chicken Cubes with rice and waited patiently.

The rice was served in a cute mini metal wok (perhaps coming from the name of the stall) and was generous with gravy and chicken meat. Unfortunately, upon trying it out, it was nothing like what I expected ‘Kung Pow Chicken’ to be. The gravy was just boasting of salty flavour and nothing else. Really. No spicy taste at all. And after a few bites, I just couldn’t stand the saltiness so I didn’t even finish it.
As for Saucer, he was in the mood for Korean food, so he stopped by the stall Sam-Sam Korean Cuisine. The stall was not as busy compared to Little Wok, but he went ahead and ordered anyway – the Sam-Sam Dak Galbi with rice. This came in a set with kimchi, rice and some pickled vegetables.

Fortunately, the chicken on hot plate fared a little better than my dish. The original way of presenting Dak Galbi was actually on a much bigger hot plate, where one can mix the chicken, vegetables and rice all together, as shown here. Anyway, the taste of this was quite similar to the one we had in Seoul, except that the vegetables used was different. This version looked like it was Westernized? I mean, you definitely won’t find Koreans putting Thousand Island on their vege, that’s for sure. *LOL*

Last but not least, for something sweet to end our meal, we scouted for ice-creams and came across Gelatomio! Located just in front of Forever 21 stall, this stall sells Italian ice-cream from various fruity flavours such as mango, banana, mixed berries, and so on. Best of all, this ice-cream is 100% made from natural ingredients, and 95% fat free. (finally!) We bought the large cone, that came with 4 flavours to choose from.

Out of the 4 flavours chosen, I particularly enjoyed the Mango flavour, because I love mangoes! The best part about these fruity flavoured ice-creams is that they are non-dairy. No worries on the fat content, and surprisingly, it didn’t jeopardize the ice-cream taste at all. In fact, the taste of fruit was pretty significant and the ice-cream was smooth without being melted easily.

There you go, main course and desserts for 2 persons at RM30+ in Pavilion. I’m sure there are more choices to explore. I’d definitely try something else for my next visit, anything except Little Wok!

Seriously, when was the last time you had ‘budget’ food?
Ever since you became a food ambassador, you have always dined in high class restaurants, for free. I’m so jealous of you!

Hard to do a budgeted crawl in Pavilion really. Just go with the flow, and count your losses (or gains, in kg) as you go along.
After all, eating in malls has never been cheap.
You’re right.. but it’s good to explore a little and try out the food courts some times
