Potluck Poolside Party
Last weekend, I was up to something cheeky. Together with my colleague Kai’s fiancee, we planned a surprise birthday party for him. I was in charge of roping in Kai’s colleagues and to make sure they didn’t leak the secret out. I think we did a pretty good job because Kai didn’t suspect anything at all throughout the week. On that day, all of us gathered at the poolside of his apartment, and we brought all sorts of food! Just look at the huge spread!

The potluck party

Lots of puffs
Most of the food on the table were contributed by Kai’s family. There were lots of muffins, chicken pies, kaya puffs, pizza, KFC and don’t forget the huge pot of fried noodles!

Lots of food and big bowl of fried noodles
These muffins were a big hit that night. I think they were vanilla flavoured muffins – really soft and spongy.

Delicious muffins
Another popular hit was the chicken pie, which I only had a bite of because I was already too full! The kaya puff was the box below the chicken pie.

Chicken pie and kaya puffs
As for me, my contribution was nasi lemak! I bought them from an aunty near where I stayed, and there were only 15 packs left so I bought all of them from her! They were not bad, and the most notable feature was that the whole packet was wrapped with banana leaf. You know how hard it is to get nasi lemak which is wrapped with banana leaf completely? Usually, they just put a small piece of it inside the packet. Banana leaf very expensive now, is that it?

Nasi lemak
When all of us arrived, there was nothing left to do but to wait for the star to reach. We waited and waited and soon, he came out from the lift! SURPRISE! He really had no idea!

Surprised Kai
Once he was calm and collected again, we were asked to start eating. I took some nice pictures of the pool at his apartment as well.

Pool #4
Don’t you love the pool? The apartment was still new hence, not many people were utilizing the facilities. I would have jumped in to swim but I was too shy.

The birthday cake – coconut coated chocolate cake
We also checked out Kai’s apartment upstairs, and the view from his room was simply amazing! The highly-coveted KL skyline. Now we know where to go to watch fireworks on New Year’s eve eh?

View from the room
It was actually the first ever outing we had with colleagues out of office hours. And I think it was pretty successful and fun! Hopefully we would have more of this to come. Happy Belated Birthday Kai!

Really? That’s a nice place, don’t you think?
Thanks for that. We’re having a little potluck party next week, for Xmas I guess and I’ve been trying to find something special to take.. found some good ideas at this potluck recipes site. You know, someone should invent a website where you can write what you’ll be taking, and it would make sure no one is bringing the same thing!
