I Love Naan at Pelita!
Nasi Kandar Pelita is no stranger to most of us, especially to those who stayed in Penang before. It is one of the more prominent ‘nasi kandar’ shops in Penang, along the names of Kayu, Kassim Mustafa and the likes. Recently, Pelita has opened a new branch just next to IOI Mall in Puchong. With its bright blue and yellow signboard, it’s almost impossible to miss this shop when you’re driving through the Puchong city. One night, Saucer and I decided to visit this place before our movie in IOI Mall.

Nasi Kandar station
While Saucer was busy getting his mixed rice, I ordered a hot glass of ‘teh halia’ or Ginger tea with milk. I requested for ‘kurang manis’ or less sweet, so the tea turned out just nice. It had more tea taste instead of sweetened milk, but I still think it would be nicer if it were frothier and thicker.

Teh Tarik Halia / Ginger Tea
Saucer then came back with a plate of rice drenched with curry and gravy as well as 2 pieces of chicken. The fried chicken was for me!
I particularly requested for it to go with my Naan bread. This plate of rice cost RM9.50. What do you think? I like mixing all the sauces and gravy together with the rice. In fact, the wetter, the better. But of course, it was Saucer’s plate of rice, and he didn’t like too much gravy. But the final product was delicious and appetizing! Comparable to the one I had in Penang.

My yummy fried chicken
Look at Saucer paying attention and enjoying his food! *LOL*

My order of Garlic Naan soon arrived. I loved the Naan there! It was done with the right amount of ‘burnt’ factor, and with the right thickness. I had Naan before which was too thick and made me full even when I was just halfway through. But this was just crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy inside. Really good when you mix it with dhal or curry.

Garlic Naan (RM2.50)
I really enjoyed my Naan, together with the fried chicken. I’m sure if you order the Tandoori chicken, it would go well too. I would definitely order Naan again in my next visit to Pelita.

The curry, peppermint and dhal sauces
On top of all that, we also ordered a plate of Roti Tisu. It didn’t come out as expected, as I was hoping to see something similar to the one at Kayu, towering tall and thin as tissue. This was not really tall, and it’s not that thin either. It was passable, but not exemplary. It would be an enjoyable supper food though, eating the crispy roti drizzled with sweetened condensed milk bit by bit.

Roti Tisu (RM1.50)
Overall, I quite enjoyed the experience at Nasi Kandar Pelita. It definitely brought back good old memories while I was staying in Penang. Definitely going back again for the Naan, that is, if my waistline permits.

Haha, absolutely essential to stay seriously focused when attacking a plate of nasi kandar! I’ve often stayed away from the big names in mamak, but I guess I’ll be willing to give this a shot!
LOL at your first comment! But I don’t know of any other good mamak in KL, not very adventurous with nasi kandar. LOL! You have to tell me which one is good!
Nasi kandar!!! Shudders!!! I would stay far far away from those shops! Their “knives very sharp” one! Just pick a few items – over RM10.00 already!!! *pengsan Poor pensioner like me cannot afford…

If you like Naan, there’s this mamak place @ Uptown Damansara, same row as Old Town White Coffee.
You can get some more exclusive naan there, like Kasmiri Naan, Roshini Naan…etc etc…
Your hubby certainly has a thing for friend chicken ^^
Ohh I love Kashmiri naan!! OK, thanks for the info!
PS: The fried chicken was for me.
Been at Pelita. Not bad
