Expensive Bak Kut Teh at Mo Sang Kor, Puchong
Of all the food requests that our friend from Penang (Wailian) had, his one particular request was to have Klang Bak Kut Teh. Frankly, even I had not been to Klang before. So, Saucer and I decided to go visit Klang on one week night. However, just before we left home, someone called Wailian and informed him of a Klang BKT restaurant in Puchong itself! Apparently, it’s as good as the one in Klang and we didn’t have to drive all the way there. So, at the eleventh hour, we changed plans and drove to Bandar Puteri Puchong instead. With specific directions from the friend, we ended up at a BKT restaurant called Mo Sang Kor in Bandar Puteri Puchong. The restaurant looked very tidy and new, with traditional marble furniture.

What does this mean?

Bak Kut Teh King?
Once we were seated, we started placing our orders. We were very surprised to be told that Mo Sang Kor does not serve BKT in clay pots, but in classic bowls! We all looked at each other quizzically but still went ahead and ordered since it was already past 8pm. Each portion came in a small bowl good enough for one person. So we ordered 3 of them, plus a plate of vegetables.

Partially lean Pork BKT
The portion was really quite small, just enough for one person. Even though the soup was pretty flavourful, without the claypot, it just didn’t seem right. The soup got cold pretty quickly.

Really, without the steaming hot soup, the whole experience just lacked of something. It didn’t seem like we were eating BKT, and Wailian certainly didn’t expect this when he requested for Klang BKT.

Vegetables
And the worst part? When the bill came, it was a freaking RM45! We found out that those small bowls of BKT each cost RM9.50! And the plate of vegetables also cost the same amount. That was the last straw really. Paying RM45 for BKT that portion was just too expensive, we thought. And we weren’t even full yet!

So, guess what we did? Saucer was not satisfied, neither was I, and we decided to drive to Klang right away to get our original Klang BKT fix! Our second BKT for the night. Amazing huh? Find out where we headed to in my next post!

Yea not in clay pot therefore not that yummy dy
the BKT looks dark to me, looks like soy sauce ribs and belly instead, hahahahaha.. and i can see how not nice and not enjoyable you were there with the food, else u won’t drive all the way to Klang for the 2nd round.. :p
Yea it’s very dark.. apparently the darker the better since more herbs used or something.
You’re right SK, we were really quite disappointed that night..
I believe you’ll get a better deal in Klang. There are a few shops selling BKT in Klang. I went to one of the restaurants under a flyover. Can’t remember the name. But the BKT is great tasting..the soup that is and the mushrooms and other stuff. I don’t eat pork so I didn’t taste the meat. I had all the other goodies added into the BKT soup.
Oh yea, Klang is much better! I think you went to the one Under the bridge.. one of the first Klang BKT around, I think.
had it in the Hutong Lot10 too, i think quite expensive too. samore cannot refill soup!
Oh in Lot 10 somemore… I’m sure it’s expensive there…
The place is very impressive.. sure expensive.. so nicely and neatly decorated.. very authentic looking..

Definitely! Much better and satisfying
A rip off indeed! If it is not served in a claypot, something is missing. BTW, the wordings on the plate in your second picture means “lots of customers”, which I doubt with this kind of quality, hehe!
You’re right! Something’s missing! LOL! Haha thanks for the translation!
That is freaking expensive. And without the claypot, not that uummmhhh.
Wow…2nd bak kut teh meals. I will do that too if I was not satisfy by the 1st. hehe…..else can’t sleep ma.

Oh Paramount Garden which shop? I don’t mind eating at roadside as long as it’s good!
this is my first and last time there, freaking expensive for such small bowl. Even i can finish all three bowl myself, I tell you, then maybe can feel full la. But then means I have to pay RM45 per person? Better go fly kite.
Wah you can finish all 3 bowls ar? Salute!
It’s true that the portion is really small at MSK, can’t even feed half of my stomach but it taste really good wor… haiz~~ In dilemma
I know… the soup was flavourful indeed but got cold very quickly and small portion..
no wonder so expensive la…
That’s right…
Hungry de… The 3 layers pork.. Yum yum
LOL! Another fan of 3-layer pork eh?
when it comes to klang bkt, wherever i eat, it must b 2 portions b4 i get satisfied..after all, if sin, sin to the max!
Haha.. you’re right! Must sin to the max!!
Real original Klang BKT is never served in claypots, which were added later on for variety and now becoming the norm.
Thanks for the enlightenment! I also learnt of this lately.. That original Klang BKT is served in porcelain bowls
So bad ya…..

Yea I heard! Why BKT so expensive already now?
This is my comment. This place is sucks and fuck up. Sorry for my foul language but v are damn angry wiv this shop. Our family hav a very bad encouters when visiting d shop today fr our dinner.First of all, after recommendation frm this site, v decide to hav BKT in this restaurant. Our rating to d restaurant are services sucks, foods sucks, everything sucks. It happen when v arrive to d restaurant n been services wiv d bad attitude of d waitress. First of all, v hav our right to asked fr menu, but when d waitress delivered d menu, it’s seem like very poor attitude. 2ndly are when v requesting fr d garlic. I believed most of d BKT eaters know “GARLIC” r d main site dish to go wiv BKT, but when v requested fr garlic frm d waiteress, it never server n this requested r directed to the “Taukeh Soh” at the counter. Finally v been server with 2 chilies plated garlic fr 4 persons. Sigh…NVM, v proceed to foods and v do understand tht this shop serve all foods in bowl n not like others BKT shops but everyone muz agreed BKT muz go wiv soup. Once v have our soup finised n v hav requested d soup again frm d “Taukeh Soh” the real bad thing happen. The lady boss come to our table look at our request, then go n come back wiv a small bowl of soup which d soup is only half d bowl. I was like WTF….. n v are quite curious n do some asking, then d lady boss told us lot of excuse, no soup lah, soup very expensive, soup not enuf n tht ends wiv all out family member stop eating requested fr bill and paid n direct move out frm d shops. Seriously i dun think d shop deserve anything nice feedback frm myself or my family througout d services n feedback frm d staff n ladyboss. Finally v have our dinner in Yap Chuan BKT which also in Puchong n it’s nice n better thn d shop recommended above in Bandar Puteri.
Eating BKT, must serve in bowl. Originally and traditionally they served in bowls.
And there should not added with any kind of vege, mushroom what so ever…… should be sole BKT.
Expensive?….pork is getting expensive this days. 2nd…it is because BKT is one of the selection national Chinese cuisine famous dish in Malaysia.
Thanks for the informative comment BKT lover. I guess at the end of the day, taste and preference are very subjective, some may prefer BKT with just meat while others prefer the improvised version.
給那些吃家吃貴了. That is why BKT is expensive in some places.
