Pan Mee that makes you laugh

Saucer’s good friend and best man, Wai Lian came to visit for the whole of this week and during the first night he was here, we brought him to this pan mee shop in Puchong called Hahasiu Pan Mee for dinner. This shop has been around for quite a few months, competing with the likes of Bao Bao, Jojo, Kungfu and Golden Egg pan mee shops which are all around Puchong Jaya. The interior of Hahasiu pan mee is not any different compared to the other pan mee restaurants – simple, straightforward, airy and no-nonsense decor.

Before long, the famished Wai Lian placed his order and since it was past 9pm, our orders arrived within mere minutes. Remember to order the set meal if you plan on ordering drinks, for you can save at least RM1 or 2 with the set. I ordered the ‘drink’ of Ginkgo and Red Dates dessert, which was A.W.E.S.O.M.E! Never had I have ginkgo dessert with SO MUCH ginkgo. Every single spoon was full of those nutritious yellow buds, I’m telling you. Really value for money and delicious too. There were egg shreds within the dessert as well, giving it a very aromatic smell and a full body.

Wai Lian had the Loh Hon Kuo, which was not too bad, according to him.

The restaurant boss recommended us the fried wantan and fried fish cake as sides, and we opted for the fried wantan. I thought this was just average, with minimal meat fillings.

Soon, the main dish arrived, where Wai Lian had the Herbal Pan Mee, which was apparently one of the most popular orders there. And true enough, when it was served, I could smell the strong and fragrant aroma of herbs from the soup. The bowl was also huge with plenty of noodles and chicken meat. Wai Lian kept slurping the soup and noodles away until his bowl was clean! At the end of it, he only had good comments about the bowl of pan mee – delicious soup, smooth noodles and soft chicken. He was clearly satiated. :)

As for me, my default pan mee order is always Chilli Pan Mee or ‘Lat Jiu Pan Mee’, which came with lots of dried chilli flakes, anchovies and the customary half-boiled egg. Mix them all up together to get a bowl of wholesome, flavourful chilli pan mee. I thought the taste of the chilli was not that spicy as it was, so I topped up using the chilli condiments provided on the table. The noodles though were springy and smooth – something not easy to maintain after mixing with a wet egg yolk.

I kind of enjoyed my lat jiu pan mee, munching away the crispy anchovies amidst the noodles and minced meat. Very appetizing indeed.

I’m glad that Hahasiu pan mee / Haha pan mee is located nearby in Puchong so that I can visit it again very soon!
