Awesome Soup and Halal Dim Sum at AhKadKar, Puchong
When I knew about a new dim sum outlet in Puchong, I simply had to try it out, simply because I’m staying there!
AhKadKar was the name of the restaurant and amazingly, it’s Halal! I don’t know about you, but it’s very rare for me to find Halal dim sum outlets other than those sold at Hotel restaurants, which would definitely be less-friendly to your pocket.

Stepping into AhKadKar gave me a comfortable feeling, with their green bamboo trees having a calming effect on everyone. The furniture was black and solid, while attractive murals decorate the walls.

Solid furniture

Bamboo shoots gave a calming effect
We started with several jars of soup and my gosh, they were simply amazing! Very flavourful and infused with all the goodness of meat and herbs used. Just one spoonful was enough to convince me that these soups were boiled with much love and care and much longer time!

Fish Head Herb Soup (RM 9)

Kad Herb Chicken Soup (RM 9)
Apart from soups, we also tried some of the Halal dim sum offered. There were quite a number of variety in the menu, but my favourite ones were the Chicken Pao, Kad Chicken Bread and Kad Egg tarts. The Chicken pao was made resembling a ‘char siew pao’ which would otherwise be made from pork. This was done pretty nicely, such that the flavour was there, the fillings were pretty generous and the ‘pao’ was fluffy especially when hot. For Halal-eaters, this is a pretty close substitute for ‘char siew pao’.

Kad Chicken Pao(RM 4.00)

Kad Radish cake (RM 3.50)
I tried their steamed prawn dumplings too, but their skin was stuck to the bottom of the bamboo steamer, resulting in the less-than-perfect shape when picked. Otherwise, the prawns were decent and of reasonable size.

Kad Prawn Dumpling “Har Gao” (RM 3.50)

Kad Prawn Dumpling “Green” (RM 3.50)

Kad Siu Mai (RM 3.50)

Kad Laver Crab roll (RM 4)

Kad Glutinous Rice (RM 4.50)

Kad Chicken Tofu Roll (RM 3.50)
The chicken wings had very crunchy skin, but if you’re a health-freak, you could always remove the skin and eat the meat inside only.

Kad Fried Chicken Wings (RM 3.50)

Kad Mutton Dumpling (RM 4.50)

Kad Chicken Bread (RM 3.50)

Kad Chestnut cake (RM 3.50)
I love the egg tarts! Love their medium size too, not too big or small, which was good for female eaters like me.

I actually applaud AhKadKar’s move to make dim sum available to a larger community especially in a multi-racial country like us. Even though I still prefer non-halal dim sum deep down, I would probably go back to AhKadKar again just for their heavenly soups!

Oh yes indeed.. the pork lard makes a HUGE difference
very nice deco and ambience indeed.. but for dimsum, i really prefer the traditional non-halal ones, dunno why, just think that halal ones just lack of something it should be there..
but the mutton dumplings are something special i guess hardly found anywhere..

Me too! hi 5!
A rather funny name, if I may say so. But definitely value for money. I would have given no thought when given the choice between pork-free or non-halal outlets for dim sum.
Traditional dim sum outlets win hands down.

Yea it’s not common indeed
A friend told me recently that their branch in subang is closed? I went there last year with my friends and thinking about going there again this Friday.
Hi Ash,
I’m sorry but I only went to the Puchong branch before. Not sure about their Subang branch, perhaps it’s best to call up the restaurant
I heard that both the subang branch and puchong’s were closed. anyone know about it?
I’m not too sure about that, Fiona. But I did hear someone saying something similar previously.. maybe need to call the contact number to see if it’s still working?
