Visit to Myeongdong & Cathedral, Seoul – Part 3
On the first day that Saucer was out for work, I spent some time in the apartment to search for where I could go on my own. First on the list was Myeongdong, simply because it’s easily accessible by subway, and it’s a street market! Who doesn’t like shopping?
So, I was all set to venture out solo, equipped with my subway map, umbrella, water and jacket! It was still cold outside, with temperature hovering around 5-7C. Taking the subway, I reached Myeongdong in no time and started walking around the streets.

Myeongdong in the day time
Apparently, Myeongdong is only busy during the evening and nights, with more stalls opening on the streets. When I was there in the afternoon, some shops were not even open yet, and people were scarce. Worry not, I actually went there again with Saucer a few days later at night!

Shops at Myeongdong
There were many shops selling cosmetics and face care in Myeongdong, with common brands such as Nature Republic, Etude House, Skin Food, etc filling the streets at every nook and cranny. Seriously, girls would have the time of their lives here if they love cosmetics! Too bad I’m not one of them.

While walking along one street, I noticed a crowd from afar. Being curious, I approached the crowd to see what was happening. It looked like some filming was in place, perhaps for a commercial. I wouldn’t know – I couldn’t understand a word they were saying.

Commercial filming in place?

Close up shot
I spent about 1 hour walking the streets of Myeongdong, and purchased some earrings at only 1,000won per pair! Later, armed with the map, I looked for any nearby attractions that I could visit, and spotted a huge star on the Myeongdong Cathedral. It was only within minutes by foot, and since the day was still young, I followed the map to get to the Cathedral.

Myeongdong Cathedral
I’m not a Christian myself, so my visit to the Cathedral was purely for photo shoot purposes. I loved the antique structure and very high clock tower.

While exploring the cathedral, I noticed a basketball court at the back.

There was also a huge football field which would have been green if not for the cold winter.

The famous clock tower
The Cathedral was indeed huge and beautiful. Too bad Saucer wasn’t around to admire the place with me. I left the place soon, looking forward to meet up with Saucer for dinner that night.

I love it too!
A lot of Catholics in Seoul, it seemed. Nice cathedral. No photos inside? What about the underground – with all the shops? Still there or not? Last time, everybody was down there, so crowded underground… They said they had it like that for fear of an attack by North Korea.
I didn’t dare to take pictures inside, since there was a sermon going on. Not sure of the ground rules inside a church
Yea, the underground still has lots of shops! I actually walked back to the hotel through the underground path. Very nice
