Amazing Butter Crabs at King Crab Restaurant, Kelana Jaya

Before I moved to KL, Saucer used to stay in SS2 PJ, and whenever he fetched me from the Subang airport back to his place, we would pass by this big signboard just opposite the Kelana Jaya LRT station with the words ‘King Crab’ written across it. I remember always telling Saucer that this restaurant must be one of those commercialized restaurants which are expensive and overrated. But my recent visit to this restaurant (finally, after 2 years!) proved me wrong!

The group of us had the rare privilege of dining with the restaurant owner Dato’ Marcus Kam, who’s a really inspirational speaker himself. We were seated in a private room on the 2nd floor of the restaurant, complete with a huge sofa set and LCD TV. This room would have been perfect for any formal business dinners or gatherings.

The condiments

We spotted a bottle of special Thai Chilli Sauce on the table and found out that this chilli sauce is only available in King Crab because the recipe is a secret within Dato’s family. Talk about heritage.

Dato’s famous chilli sauce

We started our dinner with some appetizer as the teaser. Instead of the common groundnuts, we were served with ‘achar’ or a variety of pickled vegetables marinated in chilli, vinegar and so on. It was good!!! In fact, it was so good, I shamelessly kept eating it until Uli asked me whether I was really hungry. *LOL* But the fact was, I enjoyed eating it very much and it reminded me of the achar that my mother used to make. Just fabulous!

When the dish of Signature Long Ribs was presented on the table, everyone let out a gasp, and even Dato’  proclaimed himself as a fan. I, as someone who love pork ribs, was sold immediately! The ribs were so long and shiny and fragrant! I was salivating as of the moment I snapped the picture below. *LOL*

The meat was well marinated and juicy, and the slightly crispy edges of the skin coupled with the thick and sticky gravy were just the ultimate combo. I wish I could have more of these.

For those who love fatty pork meat, the Braised pork must not be missed! Look at the chunks of shiny and thick fat so inviting and so delicious, waiting for you. :)

When I was young, dinner out with family definitely involved Lemon Chicken, and this Fruity Deep Fried Chicken reminded me of the good times I had with my family. Crispy and aromatic, just the way my family would like it.

The Thai Style Tilapia proved to be a worthy order with its huge portion and fleshy meat.

Of course, when one is at King Crab, one simply has to order crabs! We had two versions of it, with the first being the Rice wine baked crabs. Oh my, just look at the crabs below. Absolutely mind-boggling drool-inducing plate of crabs!

What’s even yummier is the second crab dish, also the signature dish of King Crab – Claypot crabs baked in creamy butter sauce. If you haven’t experienced heaven on earth, this is it. *LOL* The gravy was thick and creamy, while fragrant and not overpowering. It went perfectly with the huge and fleshy crabs! I totally fell in love with it.

Dip the mantou inside the butter sauce and you’ll find yourself ordering more mantou. For they are just so yummy together. And I’m not exaggerating.

The glorious spread

The dinner was beyond satisfaction. It was one of the best crabs dinner that I’ve ever had in a long long time. And I’m sure everyone that night agreed with me. If you don’t, you are more than welcome to try it for yourself. :)
