One World Hotel Dim Sum Buffet at Zuan Yuan Restaurant

Did you guys hear about the Hot Air Balloon festival last weekend held in Putrajaya? To be honest, it was my first time hearing about such an event and it was apparently happening annually! I guess I was just not that exposed to these events back then when I was still in Penang. :) Anyway, the group of us bloggers decided to join in the fun to take pictures at the ungodly hour of 7am on Saturday! *groans* Not to mention I slept at 2am the night before, so I only had 4+ hours of sleep before heading to Putrajaya.

The weather that morning was not so nice, hence most pictures turned out to be pretty dark. :(

After sweating it out and being chased out by the guards (because I was not holding a DSLR!), we were hungry looking for breakfast/lunch. Ken came to the rescue and suggested we go for dim sum buffet at Zuan Yuan restaurant located in One World Hotel. Immediately, all of us said yes! More like our tummy said yes. *LOL*

Zuan Yuan, being the hotel’s signature restaurant bears an aura of oriental exuberance. With the restaurant name that is synonymous with a treasure trove of gems, Zuan Yuan welcomes its patrons with silver leaf ceilings, ebony doors and artifacts of wine jars that complement the decor and cuisine of the restaurant.

When all of us arrived, we downed cups of the exquisite Chinese tea after the sweltering morning.

With that, our taste buds were ready and awaiting. :) What is dim sum without the ever famous signature ‘har kao’ or prawn dumplings? The dumplings here were steaming hot when served, with several (at least 2) succulent prawns within each dumpling, doubling up our satisfaction.

Being a halal restaurant, the siew mai here is creatively modified to use, guess what? Shark’s fin (!) AND shrimps instead of pork. Well if you ask me, I’ll say yes to this version of siew mai anytime! :)

Fancy loh mai kai but always think it’s too big or filling? Fret not, for Zuan Yuan has painstakingly inserted the loh mai kai into cute little dim sum sizes glutinous rice balls, where you can enjoy the goodness of glutinous rice without getting too full.

Done with the steamed items, we moved on to the baked and fried items. *drools* All of them were served hot and crispy!

The cheese tarts were amazing! At first glance, I thought they were egg tarts but with the first bite, the melted cheese flowed into my mouth (luckily it wasn’t burning hot when I ate it) and the aroma of cheese just filled up all my taste buds.

Dining at Zuan Yuan made me feel like royalty. Why, you ask? The Steamed Seafood Dumpling with Superior Stock and Shark’s Fin says it all. It was my first time drinking such a soup, and I totally fell in love with it. The broth was rich with seafood goodness and when I opened the dumpling, I was welcomed with more wonderful surprises! I would personally call the dumpling the Seafood Treasure for it was filled with lots of goodness including fish maw, to name an example. This soup is so good that I’m going to give it the iamthewitch.com Golden STAR DISH award! Yes, from now on, whenever I do a food review I’ll give one special dish a Golden Star award, to commemorate the chef for doing such a brilliant job. :)

Other than the Star Dish above, guest can choose to have Braised Shark’s fin with Crab Roe soup as well. Unfortunately, each guest is only allowed to have either ONE of these soups and only ONE serving for the buffet. No points for guessing which one I would choose eh? ;)

The Water Prawn noodles is apparently one of the signature dish of Zuan Yuan as well, and this is also a limited order with one portion per guest. So make sure you don’t miss this out!

Last but not least, to complete our meal, we ordered unlimited helpings of desserts such as the Chilled Aloe Vera infused with Lemon Grass and Double boiled Crystal Pear with Fresh Ginseng. Both are cooling and refreshing to the body and soul.
