Having a cuppa at Societea, Kuchai Lama

Societea, a term coined from Society and Tea, is one of the rare places where one can find a huge range of flower tea and food! Thanks to Bok, I had the opportunity to visit this place recently and I was impressed! Once I entered the shop, I was greeted with a warm ambiance with dim orange lighting that was really soothing and relaxing to the eye and soul.

There were also couches available for those who just want to kick back and relax after a long day’s work, enjoying a cuppa!

Once we settled down on the dining area, we were served first with the starters. The Caesar’s Salad With A Dash Of Anchovies In Olive Oil was a hit for me and I don’t even fancy salads to begin with. I loved the combination of Romaine lettuce, croutons, egg and olive oil all mixed together thoroughly in a bowl. The best part is, it’s healthy!

Next came the Shrimp Cocktail in Wasabi Mayo, which looked unassuming at first, but upon the first bite, the fiery wasabi really perked up your senses. Not to mention the very succulent prawns which just made the appetizer more yummy.

The Sauteed Sausage with Ikan Bilis (with Cili Padi) was something more out of the ordinary as it was my first time tasting appetizer cooked this way. The bits of cili padi (bird’s eye chilli) did help to open up my palate for the upcoming dishes.

The first mains was Roast chicken Sandwich Coated with BBQ Sauce, and though it looked simple, I just loved it! In fact, it was one of my favourite dishes that night! Somehow, the chicken was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy with just the right amount of gravy on top. Coupled with the soft and warmly toasted bread, it just hit the right notes in my tongue!

The Pan-grilled Dory fillet slathered with Honey Lemon Mustard Sauce might sound a little common at first, but upon checking with the owner, this dish had no salt or sugar added in it! How amazing! And it was not bad at all! I seriously think honey and lemon are actually fish’s best friend. :)

The Chicken Chop in Brown Sauce was crispy at the edges and tender inside.

After the chicken, came the Lamb Chop in Black-pepper Sauce, which was Saucer’s favourite! Lamb was well-marinated and juicy, plus the gravy was delicious. I personally don’t like lamb very much because of its very big bones and fatty meat! *LOL*

The medium cooked Sirloin Steak in BBQ sauce was very fragrant even before it was served on the table. Loved the idea that it wasn’t undercooked because I simply detest seeing blood in my food. *gross*

If you are someone who doesn’t fancy a lot of meat, then Societea has just the right fix for you! From pasta to rice to noodles, take your pick! My favourite of the lot was Aglio Olio with Prawns! It was such a hit with the rest of us that the plate was cleaned within minutes of serving, and some of us didn’t even have the chance to taste it! *LOL* The pasta was cooked al dente, and the olive oil was fried with the pasta until it was really fragrant. And since it was cooked with olive oil, I had no qualms about second helpings. :)

The Mee Hoon soup also received some praises from a few of those in the group. In fact, we requested for a second helping of this because it was just too good! The broth was flavourful with a rich fragrant of salted vegetables, prawns and fish paste. No MSG added!

Now, moving on to the drinks! The variety was so much I honestly didn’t have the stomach to try all of them.

As for the star of the night, flower tea! We had pots and pots of the flowery goodness and I couldn’t stop raving about the Rose + Hawthorn Fruit pot for it was said to burn fat! No wonder the owner claimed that this was one of the most popular orders. ;)
