House of Tang Chinese New Year Specials
I know, I know, you must be thinking, not ANOTHER Chinese New Year food post? Trust me, the trail is ending soon!
Anyway, this is a joint that I simply MUST introduce to all of you, for its food is simply marvellous! And I’m surprised I didn’t discover this place earlier! Located just next to One Bangsar, this unassuming Chinese restaurant stands out among the rest in terms of its taste and environment.
We had the chance to sample the Chinese New Year set menus provided by House of Tang, courtesy of Richard’s arrangements. The first dish was Salmon Yee Sang with Crispy Shredded Treasures in Plum Dressing.

Of course, being us, the yee sang was mixed with much rowdiness and excitement, until almost the whole table was filled with bits and pieces of this dish! *LOL*

Pretty presentation

Nice cold beer to down it
When the next dish came, we all looked at it in awe, for we have never seen such big melon before! Opening it up unveiled a very aromatic and thick broth of Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat and Dried Scallop, enclosed in the goodness of winter melon.

The baked chicken was something new to me in a Chinese restaurant. Surprisingly, it tasted very similar to Nando’s chicken, except that it wasn’t spicy. Skin was baked to perfection, with enough spices and marinade to keep the chicken tender and juicy.

Assam Garoupa fish was one of my favourites as I loved Assam fish! It was very appetizing and the fresh fish just complemented the assam gravy too well.

When the next dish came, we all ooh-ed and aah-ed at the fantastic presentation! It looked just like a plate of flower! Indeed too pretty to be eaten, the House of Tang Braised Pork Trotter tasted as good as it looked. Tender pork meat with delicious gravy. No complaints at all for this dish.

Moving on, the Japanese styles fleshy prawns (ming ha) didn’t fail to impress us as well. Most importantly, the prawns used were fresh and succulent. That itself already makes up more than half of my ratings.

House of Tang makes really good soup! We had the chance to try 3 types of soup that night and all of them were delicious! They were all double-boiled, and each sip was a delight, especially the one cooked inside a coconut. The coconut essence just embraced the soup perfectly.

Braised pork with Soya Sauce was a hit with some of the guys on the table, especially those who fancy fatty meat! The combination of fat and lean mean with the perfect cut was simply too good to resist! Adding it on a piece of mantou with some sauce was absolutely fabulous.

I enjoyed the Claypot Pork Belly with Lotus Root since the lotus root was cooked until it was tender yet firm.

What’s Chinese New Year without some ‘fatt’/prosperity? This dish of Braised Dried Oysters with Fatt Choy, Black Mushrooms, Shell Fish and Wok Fried Greens reminded me of Chinese New Year back at home, just like how grandma used to make it.

Saucer loved the fried noodles very much despite it being a tad oily. It was fried with enough heat and was very fragrant with pork lard!

Steamed Rice with Waxed Meat in Lotus Leaf released a very strong aroma even before it was served. Fortunately, the taste didn’t disappoint, with the variety of waxed meat all adding flavours to the rice – definitely the best that I’ve tasted!

Come dessert time, we had three different desserts, the most significant to me was the ‘Tau Fu Fah’ with Almond Cream. It was simply too smooth and melted in my mouth almost immediately!
