Room Eighteen at Mid Valley
I first heard about Room Eighteen from Saucer, after he had lunch there in the Tropicana City Mall branch. Ever since then, I’ve always wanted to give it a try myself. Until one day, when we were in Mid Valley Megamall, we stumbled upon another branch there!

Room Eighteen HK cuisine
Without much thoughts, we went in and placed our orders. Since it’s a HK cuisine restaurant, we couldn’t run away from ordering the milk tea. Unfortunately, the milk tea here is a far cry from the ones I had in HK, and not too great if compared to the other ones in KL too. Pretty diluted and lack of taste. I still prefer the milk tea from Prince restaurant, where even their ice-cubes are made of milk tea!

Iced milk tea
One of our orders was the seafood porridge. The porridge was pretty smooth and flavourful, but the bits and pieces of what I would deem Chinese crullers on top were pitiful. They’re meagre in both quality and quantity. What a vast difference from the big fat crullers I had back in HK! These were hard and tough, even after soaking them in the porridge for a while.

Porridge
Luckily, the taste of the porridge and the mixture of seafood and meat inside managed to offset the drawback. There were prawns, meatballs and squid inside, which were all fresh and delicious.

Seafood in porridge
We also ordered a plate of wan tan noodles with BBQ pork (char siew). The noodles here were not bad, but not springy enough, in my opinion.

Wan tan noodles with BBQ pork
As for the BBQ pork, too much fatty meat! I specially requested for lean pork, and the waitress just said, she’d ‘try her best’ but ended up with giving me more fatty meat. *fml* Taste of the pork was not too great either, some parts were burnt. But I guess it still fared slightly above average compared to the normal char siew you find from coffee shops.

Fatty char siew
Oh well, I guess it’s an average experience for me here. I would think Canton I definitely serves better wan tan mee than this. I wouldn’t mind the porridge though.

Oh that’s a pretty heavy meal one ton noodles with those fatty char siew. Thanks for the info & pictures. Glad the porridge is OK. Hopefully they improve the standard of food to maintain the name Room 18 or else those dissatisfied diners were to change a number in front then would sound awkward.

Yea, the porridge was not too bad. Much better than the char siew.

True, Canton-i’s wantan mee is probably the closest thing to the REAL HK wantan mee, complete with big, juicy prawn wantan.

isn’t this Room Eighteen a rebranding of the Chopstick Noodles House?? that was what i thought when i walk passed the MV branch – it’s just changing the signboard of the old shop.. didn’t want to try, because i had bad experience with CNH, don’t want another.. :p

Hmm I’m not sure if this is a rebranding shop.. but I never tried the tenant before Room 18 here. Haha guess your experience with CNH really not great eh…
heard quite a few bad comments previously. They’re under Tai Thong group if I remembered correctly. Think Canton-i would be better than this place ;P

Oh Tai Thong group? Well they probably should have more QC.
Yea Canton-i would be much better.

I wonder why the Room 18 replaced the previous Chopsticks Noodle House which was better? Both are under Tai Thong right?

I’m not sure about Chopsticks noodle house Foong.. never tried that before…
Haha! Now you’ve been to HK, you will keep comparing Malaysian Cantonese cuisine with HK. You’re going to get lots of dissapointments!
Haha Well I can’t help it! Especially when I eat at restaurants claiming to serve authentic HK food!
Yes, I much prefer Canton I. So much better! I think Room 18 is below average! Won’t want to step in there again! (Unless free) Haha
Oh you also dined at ROom 18 before eh… I guess we share the same opinions on this. Canton-i much better… though not as good as HK (Oops, there I go again…
)
I don’t even like Canton-i, so I guess I’ll postpone my visit to Room Eighteen. >P
Haha yea I guess so babe!
awww, too bad the experience wasn’t pleasant =(
