Bangkok Wasabe and Christmas at e@Curve
It was my second time meeting blogger Foong and I was late! The truth is, Saucer and I had a pre-wedding shoot on the same morning, at 8am! So we woke up at 7am and drove to the studio and by the time we finished our business there, it was already 4+pm! *gasp* We reached home at 5pm, I think, and I was so very exhausted that I just dropped dead on the sofa once I reached home, with makeup intact. *gross* But I was really TOO tired. Next thing I knew, I heard an sms at around 7+pm, and that jolted me up. It was Foong reminding me of the dinner (of course I hadn’t forgotten, just overslept:P). Anyway, after rushing through it all, we reached Bangkok Wasabe safely, and placed our orders.

Following the waiter’s (Johnny) recommendation, we ordered the steamed siakap with lime and chili. It was apparently a very famous order in Bangkok Wasabe. Unfortunately, we found the fish to be not that fresh! The meat was not flaky and smooth as expected from a fresh fish, and we mentioned this to Johnny. He quickly removed the dish to the kitchen and came back shortly telling us that it wasn’t the case that the fish was not fresh, but it was overcooked! And he gladly replaced a new one for us. So very nice of him huh?

Of course, we couldn’t stop ourselves from ordering tom yam when we’re in a Thai restaurant, could we? We had the tom yam seafood, which was quite nice. Above average, really. The soup was thick enough and flavoured with a variety of seafood without being too sour. It was just right in terms of spicyness, that is, to me. I saw Saucer sweating profusely though, LOL.

Then, we had the kangkung belacan, which was pretty normal, but the portion was a little too small.

The pandan chicken though, was the best! No wonder they’re sold out! One serving was supposed to have 5 pieces, but there were only 4 left, and we bagged them all! They were really good. Very aromatic even before you open the leaves, and the chicken inside was well marinated. The skin was still a little crispy, and the interior was all moist and flavourful. This is a must-have!

As for desserts, we ordered the Mango sticky rice as Foong was missing the one he had in Bangkok. But sad to say, this was a far cry from what he used to eat there. Even for someone who hasn’t been to Bangkok like me, I thought this dish was just so-so. The rice was not soft enough, and it was rather tasteless on its own. The mango was sour! Oh well, probably not the right season to be eating mangoes, I suppose?

The last dish that we had was the Thab Thim Krob, another famous Thai dessert. This, in my opinion, fared much better than the first dessert. Slices of sweet jackfruit coupled with juicy water chestnut in milky santan, they ended up to be a pretty good combination!

Before we left the place, I pestered Foong to take a picture with me! As you all know, he’s a very shy person, but I promised to cover his face up. I even purposely resized the picture to the smallest size! *LOL* Foong, are you happy with this picture?
You look so cute and tall! Hahaha…

After the dinner, Saucer suggested that we should go for a movie, since it was Saturday night anyway. We wanted to watch Storm Warriors but couldn’t book the tickets through the phone, so we decided to drive to the Cathay Cinemas and try our luck there. Little did I know that the area was all decorated with beautiful Christmas trees and decorations! Both Foong and I started snapping away with our trusty LX3.

We managed to buy tickets for show at 12.35am! Having another hour to kill, we had drinks at Winter Warmers, as mentioned in this post here. As for the movie, I thought it was just OK. I think I slept through maybe 30% of the show! *LOL* I don’t know if it’s because of the midnight show (not really a night owl) or because of the storyline.
Anyway, it was a great outing and we’d definitely be hanging out more often soon!

Fish with lime and chilli? That’s pretty unique, guess that should taste nice.
It’s a good gesture that they replaced the fish for you. I’m sure you will go back there again someday, just make sure you order the right food this time, since you know which ones are just mediocre. ^_^
