Pizza Hut Crunchy Cheesy Bites
I was caught by surprise when I found out that Pizza Hut was arranging food review sessions with bloggers! My first time indeed! I was pretty doubtful about it at first, knowing that I never really liked Pizza Hut because their crust looked and tasted more like bread than pizza. But I was curious to try out their latest design though, which I’m going to show you very soon. We went to the Pizza Hut at Maju Junction Mall. Digress a bit, Maju Junction Mall has an Esprit Outlet! I never knew that! Now you know where to get cheaper Esprit clothes eh?
Anyway, the interior of the Pizza Hut at Maju Junction Mall was cheerfully designed with lots of bright paintings and huge mirrors.

Once I went in, I met with the Vice President of Pizza Hut Malaysia, Mr Lawrence Ding, who is by far one of the humblest big shots I know. Very down-to-earth and funny guy. Notice he likes to pose in pictures with a ‘peace’ sign! He even personally served us by asking us what drinks we wanted and gave us recommendations as well. I ordered the yogurt smoothie Mango Tango drink, which was very creamy and mango-ey! I love!

As usual, Pizza Hut’s creamy mushroom soups were served at the beginning of our meal. Truth be told, I never really fancy the soup because I dislike the fact that they put in flour to make the soup creamier and thicker. I don’t mind that, but at least ensure that the bits of flour are completely dissolved before serving to the customers, right? I have had too many episodes previously where I accidentally bit into those bits of flour, thinking they were mushrooms, and eeww! Very gross feeling indeed. Luckily, the soup I had at this branch was good! No unwanted pieces of flour! Thank God.

We also had garlic bread, one of my favourites! I prefer garlic bread so much more than those cheese sticks!

Garlic bread (RM3.00)
And don’t forget those chicken Deli wings! According to Lawrence, these wings were entirely smoked, infusing them with spices and marinade, before being baked. I never ordered wings before from Pizza Hut and when I tasted them, oh my! Simply glorious! Very aromatic, juicy and flavourful! This is going to be a must-order item when I visit Pizza Hut next time!

Spicy deli wings (6 pcs RM18.00 / 4 pcs RM12.50)
Other than the deli wings, Pizza Hut also introduced their latest Hot wings! Honey BBQ wings and Sweet Chili wings. They are smaller size for easier consumption, and have crunchy skin too!

Sweet Chili Wings (RM7.50/4pcs)
After the appetizers, it was time for the main star of the night – Crunchy Cheesy Bites Pizza! This revolutionary pizza gives pizza lovers a unique crunchy and cheesy eating experience all at the same time. Unlike normal pizzas that have a smooth round crust, the new pizza is cut around the edges, creating bite-size pieces all around its crust. These pieces are filled with crunchy cornflakes and stuffed with an exquisite blend of three of the world’s most famous cheeses – Mozzarella, Parmesan and Cheddar. Oh I love parmesan!
The cornflakes on the crust make them crunchy on the outside and the cheese soft on the inside, giving the pizza its unique crunchy-cheesy eating experience. To add to this innovative delight is a scrumptious bed of eight tempura prawns. Those tempura prawns were pleasantly fresh!

A regular Crunch Cheesy Bites Pizza costs RM27.50 and a large one RM37.40. For group dining there are set combo meals for RM30.90 for two persons and for RM45.90 for four persons that includes garlic bread, soup and 7Up Revive. Customers buying it a la carte for dine-in or takeaway using Maybankard are entitled to a 30% discount. Saucer has a Maybankard, yay!
Crunchy Cheesy Bites Pizza is now available at all Pizza Hut restaurants in the country for a limited period only, from now till 4 December 2009.
Apart from the Crunchy Cheesy Bites Pizza, we also had the Super Supreme Crunchy Crust pizza, apparently one of the best-sellers in Pizza Hut. It is a combination of ground beef, pepperoni, beef cabanossi, chicken meatloaf, capsicum, onion, button mushroom, pineapple and olive. So much goodness in one piece of pizza!

Lawrence also told us that making the pizza pan crust dough is one of the hardest process! The doughs are made twice a day, and they have to be left to ‘rise’ in perfect still condition. Even transporting the doughs on trolleys prove to be a challenge sometimes as sudden abrupt movements would cause the doughs to collapse. *gasp* Interesting indeed.

My all-time favourite, the Hawaiian Chicken pizza! I practically grew up with this pizza when I was young. My parents never failed to order this whenever we went to Pizza Hut. I love how the juicy and sweet pineapples are generously added on the pizza and they go so well with chicken and cheese!

Apart from pizzas, we have some other Italian favourites, such as this Cheese-baked Meatballs, which are premium Italian meatballs simmered in your choice of Carbonara, Masala or Seasoned Tomato sauce and baked with a layer of Mozzarella cheese on top.

And pastas! I enjoyed the Prawn Olio spaghetti the most! The spaghetti was cooked al-dente, and there were succulent prawns cooked with garlic oil, onions, Shitake mushrooms, fried garlic and dried chili. Pretty healthy, I think.

Prawn Olio (Regular RM9.50 / Large RM13.90)
The Meatball Bolognaise is the popular favourite, made from tomato sauce simmered with minced meat, roasted onions, 2 meatballs and topped with grated Parmesan cheese.

Also, who could forget the Creamy Carbonara? I believe this is one of Lawrence’s favourite as he kept repeating to his waiters to get this dish out, even though we were already full to the brim! This dish has creamy carbonara sauce, char-grilled chicken, Shitake mushrooms, onions and fresh green peas.

Creamy Carbonara (Regular RM9.50 / Large RM13.90)

Creamy Carbonara – very creamy indeed
The Thai Tuna roll was something new to me, but tasted not too bad. Pretty appetizing since it was slightly spicy.

Of course, no one can really go wrong with the Tempura Calamari Rings. And just to show how good they were, the plate was empty within minutes and I didn’t even get a bite!

Tempura Calamari Rings (RM7.50)
Dinner was made greater with fun company including Ken, BigBoysOven, Jessica, Xin and Superwilson, all made possible because of Chris!

Food, glorious food!

witch and Lawrence Ding – notice the peace sign!
Before the night was over, we had a surprise birthday celebration for Superwilson, who turned 31 that night! Happy birthday dude!

I must say, this visit did change my perception on Pizza Hut. For the past one year, I did not visit Pizza Hut due to better options available out there, and also due to the fact that their pizza crust was very much like bread. But apparently, the management did listen to the consumers and have done a major revamp on their food quality. Vast improvement, I must say.

Currently, Pizza Hut is also having a Watch & Win Contest for customers with attractive prizes to be won. Participants are required to arrange the six frames shown in the new pizza’s television commercial that appears on TV, Pizza Hut’s website, YouTube and Facebook in their correct sequence. There are four grand prizes of a Panasonic Plasma TV each, four first prizes of an iPhone each, four second prizes of a Acer Notetbook each and four third prizes of a Panasonic Limix Digital Camera each and many consolation prizes.
