Thai Pan Delight-ing you
Fancy Thai food? What would you say to a bowl of seafood tomyam at only a mere RM13, enough for 2? In an air-conditioned environment to boot? And in Klang Valley? Impressive, isn’t it? It’s not impossible though, with Thai Pan Delights serving your Thai needs.
Ken invited a few of us bloggers to try out the food at this relatively new (about 6 months old) joint serving authentic Thai food in Kuchai Lama.

Thai Pan Delights at Kuchai Lama
The interior was air-conditioned and comfortable. Seats and tables were not placed too close to each other, providing a certain level of privacy and comfort (think Kim Gary’s tables!).

I ordered Honey Lemon Lime from the menu which was slightly salty and sour. Pretty unique and refreshing, really.

Appetizers
Before long, the lady boss (Angela) started to serve us appetizers. This was the Pomelo Salad, which was a real palate-opener! It was citrusy and slightly spicy, with decent-sized prawns to boot. Makes you craving for more food!

Then we had the Thai fish cakes, which was actually new to me! Truth be told, they looked better than they tasted. Thankfully the sauce at the side saved the day. Without it, I’d think that the fish cakes were a tad too bland.

Mains
Moving on to the mains! First and foremost, how could we miss tom yam when we’re in a Thai restaurant, right? We had the Seafood special tom yam, which came in a bowl that could comfortably feed 2, at a price of only RM13! What a steal! To top that off, the soup was very flavourful, with ingredients such as prawns, calamari rings, clams and mushroom to name a few.

Oooh here comes my favourite dish of the night! Fried Belacan rice! Never should you be deceived by its rather common look. Mix all the ingredients up and be in for a surprise! I was surprised myself when I first took a spoonful of this rice. The combination was flawless, and the rice was neither too soft nor hard. Just try it and you won’t be disappointed.

Another rice dish served was the Pineapple fried rice, which was distinctly distinguished with its bright and shiny yellow surface. Every morsel of rice was fried to perfection, no unsightly lumps of rice, thank you.

Another dish that is famous in Thailand, the Green curry chicken. Look at the gravy, it’s thick and smooth, and might I add, delicious too! Fragrant with the smell of santan, this green curry chicken definitely hit a home run with my taste buds.

Another signature Thai dish was presented, which was the Pandan Chicken. Served piping hot, it was quite a challenge for me to remove the chicken from the leaves. But that’s the fun part of eating pandan chicken, no?
The chicken was fragrant but a tad too salty for my liking.

Pandan Chicken (RM8.50)
Chicken again! The next dish was the Basil leave chicken, which could be an acquired taste for certain people, as basil leaves have a strong aroma. Luckily for me, I loved it! Went very well with white rice too!

Apart from chicken, we had fish as well, such as this Thai style steamed fish which was so very fresh! Each piece of meat came off nicely in flakes and was very smooth on our tongues. The addition of lime and ginger was smart to eliminate any trace of fishy smell that would potentially bug us otherwise. Oh did I mention the gravy was really addictive too? It was hot, sour and spicy, but I kept wanting more while perspiring. *LOL*

Thai Style Steamed Fish (Siakap or equivalent) RM30-RM50
Another style of fish served was the Sweet and sour fish, which was my favourite since I was young! Anything sweet and sour goes very well with me.
This fish was no different!

Moving on to non-meat dishes, we had the Stir fried kangkung belacan with its unmistakable strong aroma was really appetizing. Portion was very big too, for the price. I’ve had kang kung before at almost twice the price but with smaller portions!

And for a more homey dish, an omelette was also served!

Desserts
Last but not least, desserts were served! There were five types of desserts served, including Tako Chestnut, Thai Chendol, Thai Sago, Red Rubies (Water Chesnut) and Sticky rice with grate coconut topping dessert! The Tako chestnut was served cold and sinfully rich with the taste of coconut milk.

The Thai cendol didn’t fare too well with me because the cendol was a little on the mashy side.

Thai cendol (RM3.50)
The Thai sago was surprisingly very good! It was served cold and each spoonful just slid down my throat effortlessly.

Thai sago (RM2.50)
Of course, nothing tops the Red rubies, my all-time favourite dessert! Every minute piece of red ruby was painstakingly filled with water chestnut inside. Each bite was a burst of refreshing flavours! Pair that with sweet and juicy mango, ahh, heavenly indeed! Not to be missed!

Red rubies (RM3.50)
Finally, the lady boss concocted something special for us, which was dessert made from sticky rice. It was my first time trying these little babies, and they turned out not that bad. The grated coconut on top was actually a little spicy, giving it a twist to an otherwise common sweet dessert. Creative!

Thai Pan Delights definitely has something to suit everyone’s budget. Dining here would definitely not put a hole in your pocket, but perhaps in your pants, when your waist starts getting bigger! *kidding*

Wow! Must go this restaurant! I hope the portions and price remains! Usually the portion gets smaller after some time and they also increase the price! It’s always good to dine in a new restaurant!
Drooling at the pomelo salad and the red rubies/water chestnuts dessert!
Do they have sticky rice with durians? I miss that a lot and love eating them when I go Bangkok! : )
