Kushi-Q automatic griller (Halal)
It was my first time seeing an automatic griller, thanks to Wilson. Kushi-Q is located at Tropicana City Mall, at the lower ground, in a small unsuspecting shop lot. The place looks bright and cheery, with lots of banners displaying their set meals. Kushi Q focuses on grilled skewered food with a Japanese twist, managed by a friendly and chirpy Eden Tang.

Kushi Q outlook at Tropicana City Mall
Walk in the stall and you’ll notice a row of stools that one can choose to sit on, at the right side facing the wall. Further in, there are several small tables for groups to chatter while they eat. You know what else is awesome about this shop? It has free WiFi service, and there is no government or service tax levied on the customers! That means, what you see on the menu is what you get! No ++ at the end. Isn’t that just cool? I hate it when you pay your bill and you realize it’s so much more than whatever stated on the menu. If it is a fixed amount (+10%, for example), why can’t they just add it to the price on the menu already?! Stop confusing the customers!

Rows of stools and Free Wifi available
Moving on, what is so special about Kushi Q is that they use an automatic griller to grill their food. I find that to be more hygienic and not to mention efficient! No more worries about burnt or overcooked food. This is how the griller looks like:

Automatic revolving griller
Only one person is clip the skewers of food onto the griller, and the rest of the work will be done by the machine itself. Saves manpower and time, don’t you think? Also, the heat is evenly distributed on the food, like an oven, and there is no emission of smelly smoke like that from BBQ or satay.

The ordering process is DIY, with just one fuss-free piece of paper (think of the nightmare in Kim Gary!).

Order chit
The menu is also straightforward, which is just one piece of laminated cardboard with pictures, descriptions and prices shown.

Menu
Enough about the introduction, let’s move on to the food! First dish was the

From top: Seasoned baby octopus (RM6.90), Black mushroom (RM1.80/stick) and Beef ball (RM2.50/stick)
We all unanimously loved the baby octopus! They were well marinated and crunchy, and they were gone in seconds. *LOL* The black mushroom was heavily spiced, with a strong aroma that reached even across the long table. It was something special and new to me, and I liked it after eating the second piece. Acquired taste, perhaps. The beef ball was something more on the common side, but it was still tender and juicy without being overly salty.
The greens:
There are several categories of food available in Kushi Q, mainly being the Greens, Beef, Seafood and Chicken. Yep, you guessed it. This is a halal place where no pork is served. For the greens, I especially liked the cold seaweed salad. It was not only yummy but healthy. I am not quite a fan of ladies’ fingers, so I didn’t try those. But judging from how they also disappeared from the plate within minutes, I suppose they must have been good, too.

There was also grilled tofu, which was surprisingly soft and smooth! The salad was pretty average, something that can be easily prepared at home. And the edamame portion was slightly small, but fresh. Quality is never compromised here, it seems.

The seafood:
Done with the greens, we were served with seafood! Needless to say, the scallops and unagi were the hot picks! They were practically flying off the plates once everyone was done shooting pictures of them! *LOL* The scallops were really fresh and juicy! Well done to the chef who marinated them. The unagi was drenched in flavourful sauces and there was no strong fishy smell. As for the shishamo, there was plenty of roe inside the fish belly. The baby octopus with sesame was similar to the ones above, just that these were served hot while the former was served cold. Equally delicious, if you ask me. One for the appetizer and one for mains.

The meat:
Most recommended would be the Beef with pineapple! They were really tender, juicy and full of flavour. Amazing how one can pack so much flavour in such small morsels of food eh?

There are much more variety with chicken, with the most prominent one being Chicken breast in aroma spice. The fragrance was strong and sharp, it just opened up my senses. Never had I agreed with chicken breast more. Another version of chicken breast was topped with wasabi sauce. How creative! For something slightly healthier with vegetables, there was Chicken thigh with capsicum and Chicken thigh with leek and sesame.

The carbs:
If you’re worried that you won’t get full just by eating skewers, fret not. There are also a selection of tummy-filling carbs for you to choose from. Our personal favourite (note that I used ‘our’ because EVERYONE of us loved it) was the Rice! It was soft and warm, with fabulous gravy. Seriously, one can just eat the rice on its own and won’t get tired of it. Eden played creative later on and added an egg on the rice, which made it so much more yummier! Definitely a must order. The noodles, though decent, paled in comparison to the rice.

The sweets:
Last but not least, the desserts! There are 2 types of ice-cream desserts to choose from, either the Red Bean Ice Cream or the Green Tea Ice Cream, each served inside a cute waffle.

This was the spread we had that night! *salivating*

Kushi Q’s best
This is Mr Eden Tang, the friendly guy who also manages Kushi Q. When you visit this place, don’t forget to look for him. He is always up for a chat!

Some camwhoring session ensued, starting with Christine and I. It was the second time we met up and I had an enjoyable time chatting with you girl!

We thought the dinner was over, when Sidney from BigBoysOven surprised us with some desserts he brought! They were from Patisserie Rui and they were truly decadent!

We had the White chocolate cheese cake which was heavenly! It literally melted in my mouth, OMG. Never had I tasted cheese cake this fine and exquisite. Given a chance, I would definitely buy this cake again! The other cake we had was the Opera, which had a hint of alcohol inside. It was rich and dense, and very good!

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal at Kushi Q, what with my first time witnessing an automatic griller. I would definitely return to this place again if I happen to be around Tropicana City Mall area. Reasonably priced food with quality.

Ooh, no 5% and 10% tax? I like restaurants like that! Give me the real price so I don’t have to get calculate how much the final price is!
Fuss free ordering is great! I really get quite irritated with Kim Gary’s confusing menu and ordering slip!

would you know where we can buy this automatic griller machine?
I went to their outlet in Tropicana Mall today & saw A LOT of little cockroaches everywhere! Lots of cockroaches in the kitchen area especially where they hang their plastic bags for take-away orders & I even saw one in the glass container that displays the food! Needless to say, I will never go back to this place ever again!
I think it is really weird that people disagree with the plans of the mosque, as the planned building isn’t only a religious building. Heck, it welcomes everyone, and even a basketball playfield is planned to be built inside the mosque. A community center is a better word, and way less frightning.
Thanks for the spreading really usefull. I choose to bookmark this site.
