Dragon One’s super duper durian pancakes
A few weeks ago, Sidney from BigBoysOven organized a food review session at Dragon One in SS2. I used to pass by this place many times when Saucer was staying in SS2 last time but I never entered it. It’s just next to Murni, and somehow, the crowd at Murni always drew my attention away.

Dragon One menu
Anyway, what a big mistake it was! Now I wish I had frequented Dragon One more often. Before long, we were served with drinks:
DRINKS:

Ice Milk Tea in Hong Kong Style (RM5.00)
Very smooth, and I especially liked the idea of placing the ice outside of the glass, for the obvious reason that the melted ice wouldn’t make your drink diluted. Good choice.

Passion Fruits Snow RM6.80
What was so special about this snowy was the snow itself! I mean, the shaved ice. It was very fine and soft, very similar to the shaved ice from the 100yen shop. Melts in your mouth, literally.

Ice-blended Japanese Matcha with Red Bean (RM5.90)
The above was my drink! Ice-blended green tea which wasn’t too sweet, with red bean to balance out the slight bitterness of tea. Yummy-licious!

Dragon fruit ice-blended (RM5.90)
If you’re not in the mood for something sweet and sinful, feel free to order the dragon-fruit ice-blended for a healthier choice.

Chilled Mango Sago with Jelly (RM5.90)
If dragon fruit is not your cup of tea, what about mango? I know I can’t resist mango! *LOL*
Speaking of mango, the kind Chef Loong prepared a special appetizer for us before he served us with food! It was a plate of home-made mango pickles, surprisingly not sour and very appetizing. I’m sorry you won’t be able to order this as it’s not from the menu, but they tasted pretty good.

MAINS:
Moving on to the mains, we had the Stir-fried bean sheet with preserved shrimps. I absolutely loved this dish! Granted, it was slightly oily, not unlike char kuey teow, but the fragrance was unmistakable. Definitely fried to perfection and it helped that the bean sheet was super smooth too. Definitely recommended.

Then, we had the Stir fried rice flour roll with spicy sauce. This was also known as ‘cheong fun’ in Hong Kong. I was expecting bland flour taste, but it turned out to be pretty flavourful.

Dragon One also has their version of Xiao Long Bau, but I personally found their skin to be a tad too thick.

Steamed Shanghainese Meat Dumpling with Superior Soup (RM6.00)
The Steamed Rice Flour Roll with Duck Meat in Crab Sauce was another favourite dish of mine that night! It was my first time eating rice flour roll with duck meat, and the combination was surprisingly GOOD. The duck meat was crispy and flavourful, and the rice flour roll was thin and smooth. Such a contrast, yet such a pleasant partnership!

Next up, we had the Steamed rice flour with Chinese crullers. This is apparently a famous dim sum dish in Hong Kong, and Dragon One managed to create the dish marvellously. Soft and smooth rice flour externally and crispy crullers inside. Delectable.

The Steamed Fish Skin Dumpling with Oyster Sauce was a hit with us because of the outer layer of tender and springy fish ball, coupled with the awesome meat and sauce filling inside.

Look at the presentation of this plate of spring rolls! Very creative, don’t you think? It was the Deep Fried Spring Roll with Unagi and Yoghurt. Anything with unagi in it would definitely be agreeable with me. *LOL* However, I think it would have been nicer if some other dressing (instead of yoghurt) was used in this roll.

The next dish was Deep-Fried Prawn Roll with Squid Paste and Cheese. There were bits of shrimps in this roll, and mixing them together with cheese was simply delightful.

I absolutely loved the Deep-Fried Prawn Roll with Orange Sauce to bits! Just look at the sizable and succulent shrimps inside. Simply fabulous.

Moving on, the Shanghai Pan-Fried Meat Buns were served. They tasted pretty similar to ‘sang yoke pau’, pretty strong pork taste.

Another Shanghai delicacy served here was the Shanghai Pan-Fried Meat Dumpling, also known as Wo Tie in Chinese. Plenty of filling of meat and vegetables, and slightly crispy skin to boot. Best eaten while hot.

Apart from dim sum, Dragon One also serves noodles, specifically La Mian. First noodle dish was Stir-Fried Vermicelli with Minced Pork, which is another one of the chef’s specialty. I personally found this dish a little on the oily side, but still delicious nonetheless.

Next, we had the Shanghainese Style La Mian with Crab Roe, which was a tad too soft. Probably us bloggers took too long to take pictures of this dish that by the time we ate it, it was already soaked in the broth for too long! The crab roe broth was very good though, rich in flavour.

DESSERTS:
For something sweet, do opt for Shanghai Layer Cake with Custard (ma lai kou). This was served piping hot and was amazingly soft.

There was also Avacado with Kataifi, which was very crispy and warm on the outside. The filling had a hint of avocado and lotus paste, which was mouth-watering.

Last but not least, the main character of the night that had all of us encoring, was the Durian Pancake! This was absolutely awesome! The outer layer was smooth and thin, and inside there was a mixture of 3 different creams with strong durian flavours, not forgetting the real durian fillings, too. This is definitely a must for durian-lovers. I even packed home some for Saucer and he loved them! Remember to try this before the durian season is over ok.

Finally, the advantage of eating with food bloggers, is having extra food to taste! *LOL* Presenting eye-candy macaroons and Moist Chocolate Cake (HEAVENLY!) by Sunny from BigBoysOven, and home-made mooncakes by Superwilson’s mom. Thanks you guys!

The meal at Dragon One was overall beyond my expectations. The presentation of food was commendable and the quality was top-notch. It was almost like hotel-standard dimsum, but at a fraction of the price. I would definitely return for my durian pancakes!
