Genting trip in one post

2 weeks ago, Saucer and I went to Genting for a weekend getaway because he was given a complimentary room in First World Hotel. :) It had been quite a while since our last trip there, and we were pretty excited about it – until we were stuck in jam due to the ISA rally at that time. :( Anyway, to cut the story short, we had our dinner in First World Plaza itself, in a place called Hot Pot, located on the 2nd floor. It’s probably the only place within walking distance that had steamboat, and we were craving for that because of the cold weather up there.

Hot Pot offers a set meal for 2 persons at a reasonable price of RM29.90, that included the plate of raw food as shown in the picture below, 2 glasses of Chinese tea and 2 bowls of rice. Considering the cost of food in Genting, this is a pretty good deal, not to mention the refillable soup!

After the dinner, we walked around First World Plaza and noticed a huge crowd surrounding the Ripley’s Haunted House and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Seeing that we didn’t have much to do, we went ahead and paid for tickets for both of these. The Haunted House was nothing too scary really.  And coming from me, someone who doesn’t watch ghost movies, it really means that it’s NOT scary. You just need to look straight, follow the group and keep telling yourself that it’s just a game. *LOL*

The haunted house adventure lasted about 20 minutes, afterwhich we proceeded to enter Ripley’s Believe It Or Not showcase. We were welcomed by Ripley himself at the entrance.

There were also lots of letters written by people around the world to thank Ripley.

The showcase has displays of interesting figures and items, like how this statue was built with junk.

There was also the very famous African Fertility Statues, whereby one is believed to get pregnant after one touches them. *gasp* There was actually a book with messages from people who had previously touched these statues and got pregnant! Apparently, there are 935 confirmed pregnancies as of Februaury 2002 due to these statues. Very interesting indeed. Anyone game for trying it out? ;)

Then there was a huge portrait of our ex-Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. This portrait was amazingly made by crystals!

Pretty good workmanship, I must say.

Along the walls, there were many interesting and funny posters, mainly display riddles, jokes and general knowledge.

There were also a couple of wax figures that I’m not familiar with. *shameful* Can you recognize this one? Margaret Thatcher? I have no idea.

There was a replica of the prison in the days of yore, with heavy metal door and even a noose inside!

Then, there was a display of hunting kits, like the one shown below.

Interestingly, there was also a vampire hunting kit!

Some heroic individuals who managed to survive gruesome attacks were also displayed in wax figures, like this man who was bitten by a shark.

And this man who survived even though the sharp object went through his head literally.

Moving away from gruesome statues, we saw this huge chair, apparently owned by the tallest man in the world. Look at how gigantic it was when I sat on it.

I couldn’t resist from sitting on the supposedly the Luckiest Chair in the World! Of course, I didn’t really get lucky after that, if you know what I mean. :P

Oh this man had one hell of a tolerance level for heat. This chef apparently went inside the baking oven together with the meat that he’s supposed to bake. I wonder why would anyone want to do that.

These Siamese twins are deemed to be the first in the world, and though they’re joined, they both have their own families and kids! Amazing!

This man below looked scary huh? Do you notice anything different with him? Focus on the eyes. Scary!

There was a room with several funny mirrors, stretching your head big and making your legs short. Hilarious! *LOL* I looked like an alien.

I would say the entrance to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not showcase was pretty worthy. We spent easily 2 hours there admiring the displays and statues, while learning something new along the way. The Haunted Adventure, on the other hand, could be passed.

The next day, after we left Genting Highlands, we stopped by Gohtong Jaya for an early dinner. Bak Kut Teh was our choice, owing to the cold weather again. We ended up in this restaurant called Tee Huat.

P1040070

Garlic and chilli

The hot and piping claypot of Bak Kut Teh was served in a short while. The soup was very aromatic and flavourful, and there was plenty of meat for two persons. However, my gripe was that the pork intestines were not cleaned properly, because I could see ‘fillings’ within the intestines. *Eeww* Perhaps one should opt out the intestines during ordering.

‘Glass’ vegetables as a common accompaniment with Bak Kut Teh, to balance up the meal.

And finally Chinese cruellers which deserved some mention. The cruellers here were crispy and warm! I think they fried them again before serving, hence preserving the crispy texture of the cruellers. Needless to say, they went extremely well with the piping hot Bak Kut Teh soup.

The meal, complete with rice for 2 persons came to about RM32+.

I have never really tried authentic Klang Bak Kut Teh before, so I can’t really judge whether they’re serving what they claim, but the Bak Kut Teh indeed provided a good fix for one in the cold weather. Price wise was comparable to KL, too, even though it’s situated in the highlands.

I’m going to Genting again next month! :) Unsettled business, that’s what I would call it.
